This article describes a pilot study at Thomas Jefferson University that endeavored to address the following question: Is an IPE simulation session an effective method to improve knowledge and attitudes among prescribers regarding pain?

Background

Burnout syndrome (BOS), characterized by exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced satisfaction in performance, has been associated with increased job turnover, reduced patient satisfaction, and decreased quality of care. It affects physicians and nurses alike, particularly in high acuity areas. In response to alarming rates of BOS, the Critical Care Societies Collaborative (CCSC), comprised of four U.S. professional and scientific societies, issued a call to action, advocating for healthy work environments (HWE), where mutal respect between team members occurs. HWE, supported by six evidence-based relationship focused standards of care, empower nurses and their colleagues to practice to their full potential. The …

Founded in 2007, the Jefferson Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (JCIPE) is one of the premier interprofessional education centers in the U.S. Our center is dedicated to improving interprofessional care (IPC) through implementing and evaluating patient-centered education throughout the Thomas Jefferson University curriculum. We offer robust trainings and educational opportunities, provide innovative teaching models and evidence-based practices to help support emerging priorities in healthcare.
