Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is reliable in the assessment of structures related to teeth. The assessment of the inferior alveolar neurovascular (IAN) bundle location using CBCT is considered one of its prime uses in different mandibular surgeries. Methodology: Retrospective CBCT data of patients presented to the institute were assessed to measure relations of IAN. Measurements were taken to assess the bone thickness adjacent to IAN, the superior-inferior dimension between the canal and the teeth, and the dimension between the canal and the inferior border of the mandible. Results: Out of the 170 patients the root apices nearest to …

Orofacial Pigmentation In Hemodialysis Patients: A Case Control Study, Asmaa Ras, Eman Khalil, Radwa Hussein, Nevine Kheir El Din

Dentistry

ABSTRACT Introduction: Orofacial pigmented lesions are one of the most significant changes that present in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), reflecting a wide range of clinical entities ranging from physiologic changes to signs of systemic disorders and even cancers. The research on oral pigmentations is limited, so it is important to pay close attention to this topic. The majority of original publications is either focused on a single lesion or are narrative reports with limited demographic information. As a result, the current study’s goal was to determine the incidence of orofacial pigmentation in ESRD patients on hemodialysis in a …

Pharmacy

The current study aimed to explore the potential neuroprotective effect of omarigliptin (OG), an antidiabetic drug that crosses the blood-brain barrier (BBB), in a Parkinson's disease (PD) rotenone-based rat-model. Results showed that OG attenuated motor impairment, histological aberrations, α-synuclein accumulation, and rescued the dopaminergic neurons in rotenone-administered rats. Furthermore, OG halted rotenone-induced oxidative stress; as shown by reduced lipid peroxidation, decline in the oxidative stress sensor (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) and its downstream heme oxygenase-1. In addition, OG abrogated neuroinflammation and apoptosis in rotenone-treated rats. Moreover, OG ameliorated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in rotenone-administered rats; as evidenced by …

Egyptian rice bran was fermented with baker’s yeast, and released phenolics were extracted with aqueous methanol to give fermented rice bran extract (FRBE). The analysis of the FRBE with ultra-performance liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization–tandem mass spectrometry revealed 21 compounds, mainly phenolic acids and flavonoids. The FRBE was then complexed with (2-hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) via noncovalent host–guest inclusion complexation using the thin-film hydration technique to improve the hydrophilicity and bioactivity of the FRBE. The formation of the inclusion complex was confirmed using HPLC, 1H NMR, FT-IR, and a phase solubility study. In addition, the biological activities of the complex were investigated. The FRBE/HPβCD …

Background: There is a general assumption that periodontal disease is highly prevalent among patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. The aim of the study to estimate the frequency of periodontitis in patients on hemodialysis among a sample of the Egyptian population, as well as the correlation between different clinical parameters of periodontal status with serum creatinine and blood urea. This may rule out the bidirectional relationship between periodontitis and renal failure in patients on hemodialysis. Methods: The study was conducted on 263 hemodialysis patients (165 males and 98 females) at three dialysis centers in Benha Governorate, Egypt (Benha Hospital, …

Objective: to investigate the influence of Er:YAG-laser-activated and conventional irrigation techniques on intracanal smear layer eradication at the apical, middle, and coronal regions of root canal walls utilizing environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM). Methods: Thirty-six freshly extracted human single-canal single-rooted anterior dentitions were involved in this study. After the root canals had been accessed and mechanically instrumented up to size X4, 0.06 taper utilizing ProTaper Next® system, they were allocated to two equal groups (18 teeth each); syringe/needle- and laser- activated groups. Each group was further subdivided into three subgroups; saline, NaOCl, and S. persica (n = 6).Arya-laser was irradiated …
