The effect of vibration on the median nerve excitability was studied in 18 healthy subjects by applying the vibrator on the skin overlying either the median nerve or the tendon of flexor digitorum superficialis. The excitability index (EI) was used to assess the median nerve excitability. This index was expressed as the ratio of the amplitude of submaximal evoked compound action potentials (SECAP) before vibration (baseline level) to that during or after the vibration.
