A Survey Of Traumatic Hand Injuries In Tao-Yuan Area, Sau-Kwan Fok, Yau-Wai Wai, Shean-Yu Lin

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

926 cases of hand injuries attending the Reha-bilitation Department or Emergency Service of Provincial Taoyuan Hospital from the period between Jan 1990 to May 1992 were studied either through interview (37). telephone (153) or chart review (736). Their pattern and severity of injuries, contributing causes- the present status of recovery and efficacy of rehabilitation were assessed. 78.9% of these injuries were job-related. 63.1% were injured directly by machines. Index finger was the most frequently injured site: middle finger ranked second. for job-relaied injuries. 14.5% of them need hospitalization and they hospitalization for 20.3 (2-180) days on the average.
