Seasonal Variation Of Vitamin A And Beta-Carotene Levels In Ghezel Sheep, Gholamreza Afshari, A. Hasanpour, H. Haghpanah, Bahram Amoughli-Tabrizi

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The present study was conducted to investigate the variations in blood serum and hepatic levels of vitamin A and b-carotene in Ghezel sheep throughout the year. From 1000 sheep aged 1-5 years, blood and liver samples were collected before and after slaughter. The levels of vitamin A and \beta-carotene in both samples were determined spectrophotometrically. The results showed significant differences between summer and winter values (P < 0.05), but no differences were found between the sexes (P > 0.05). There were significant correlations between the vitamin A levels in serum and the liver (P < 0.05). Due to low levels of vitamin A and \beta -carotene in Ghezel sheep during the winter, supplementary feeding of vitamin A is recommended during this season.

Ultrasonographic Examination Of The Goat Liver, Sarang Soroori, Afshin Raoofi, Ali Reza Vajhi, Sara Ghorbani Nezami

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The purpose of this study was to obtain detailed information about the normal size and texture of the goat liver by means of ultrasonographic examination. The structure, location, and size of the liver, portal vein, and caudal vena cava were examined ultrasonographically in 6 goats. The angle of the liver and the thickness of the gallbladder wall were also determined. Examinations were performed on the right side of the abdomen, from the 6th through 12th intercostal space, using a 6-13 MHz linear transducer. In each intercostal space the dimensions of the liver, and if visible, the location and diameter of …

Co-Existence Of Intrahepatic Bile Duct Adenoma And Colonic Adenocarcinoma, Gülen Akyol, Nüket Üzüm, Nusret Akyürek, Bülent Menteş

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Intrahepatic bile duct adenoma (BDA) is a rare benign tumor of the liver that is usually diagnosed by microscopic examination. Most cases are incidentally discovered during surgery or autopsy. Here, we report the co-existence of colonic adenocarcinoma and intrahepatic BDA mimicking metastasis in a 62-year-old man. The patient underwent metastasectomy because of the presence of colonic adenocarcinoma diagnosed at almost the same time. The diagnosis was benign in frozen sections intraoperatively and total colectomy was performed during the same operation. BDA should be included in the diseases to be differentiated from hepatic primary or metastatic tumors.
