This study was planned in order to make good the lack of information about population-based data on the prevalence of brucellosis in the Kayseri region. This cross-sectional research was performed on 1850 individuals living in the rural regionaround Kayseri. People aged 15-85 in 9 districts in this rural areas were interviewed and blood samples were screened using the Rose Bengal Agglutination test. The overall prevalence of brucellosis was 3.4%. The aim of this work was to evaluate changes in lymphocyte subpopulations, especially helper and cytotoxic T cells, in acute brucellosis patients undergoing treatment. Forty-three acute brucellosis patients were included in the study. Twenty healthy subjects served as controls. Total lymphocytes and the CD3^+, CD4^+, CD8^+, CD19^+ and CD (16+56)^+ subpopulations were counted by two-color flow cytometric analysis. The CD4+ counts in patients before and after treatment were not statistically different (p = 0.7), but healthy subjects had significantly more of these cells (p = 0.001 and p = 0.001 compared to pre- and post-treatment patients, respectively). This study was designed to determine the seroprevalence of brucellosis and leptospirosis in aborted dairy cattle. For this purpose, serum samples were collected from 163 aborted dairy cattle that had no history of vaccination against either brucellosis or leptospirosis. The antibodies against B. abortus were detected in these serum samples as 68.1%, 65.6%, 58.9% and 55.2%, respectively by the Competitive Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (C-ELISA), Complement Fixation Test (CFT), Rosebengal Plate Test (RBPT) and Serum Agglutination Test (SAT).
