The presence and distribution of Griffonia SimplicifoliaI-B4 (GSA I-B4) and Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide (CGRP) were studied in the nodose ganglion (NG) (inferior ganglion of the vagus nerve), sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) and superior cervical ganglion (SCG) of the rat. GSA I-B4 labeling was found in all ganglia tested. Neither SPG nor SCG cell bodies stained with CGRP were undetectable. The pattern of the distribution of GSA I-B4 and CGRP labeled cells were quite similar in the nodose ganglion. They were found in the poles of the ganglion with some marginal labeling. Large numbers of GSA I-B4 and CGRP labeled cells …

In our research, the effect of UVB radiation on the amounts of Ca^{++}, inorganic P(Pi), K^+, Na^+, Mg^{++} , Cl^- in serums of 22 week- old Wistar-Albino rats was investigated. UVB radiation was applied to trial group animals at dosages used for treatment (4 J/ cm^2) for a period of 4 weeks. The blood samples were taken before the ray application as the control group. At the end of one month there was no change in the amounts of Pi, K^+, Mg^{++} but the level of serum -Ca^{++} increased significantly (P

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the potential teratogenic effects of electromagnetic fields on the skeletal systems of rat fetuses. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty-five pregnant rats, which had been exposed to electromagnetic fields with frequencies of vertical 50 Hz and horizontal 20 kHz and a total maximum intensity of 10 milligauss, during their pregnancies, were the study group, while 15 pregnant rats were the control group. One hunderd eighty-nine and 125 fetuses obtained from the study and the control group respectively, were evaluated for abnormalities and variations in the skeletal system. The chi-square test was used for the statistical analysis. RESULTS: Major abnormality, …

Lead may exert toxic effects on several organ systems, but those in the lung are the most insidious. Therefore the aim of the present study was to investigate the morphological alterations caused by lead intoxication in rat lungs. Twenty-five Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups: the control group consisted of five animals while the experimental groups contained ten animals each. The control group animals were not subjected to lead treatment, whereas the first experimental group animals were exposed to 500 \mug /0.1 m 3 /day of lead for one week, and the second group had the same dosage …
