The Prevalence Of Strongyle Infections And Persistent Efficacy Of Pyrantel Embonate, Ivermectin And Moxidectin In Turkish Horses, Veli̇ Yilgör Çirak, Ender Güleğen, Christian Bauer

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Strongyle infection was detected in 68% of 320 horses from 9 farms in western Turkey. Egg counts per gram of faeces (EPG) were more than 950 in half of the animals. The persistent efficacy of 3 different anthelmintics to suppress cyathostome EPG was compared on a horse farm. One group of horses was treated with moxidectin on day 0, and the 2 other groups received pyrantel embonate or ivermectin on days 0 and 70. Pyrantel embonate reduced the EPG by >90% for 2 weeks; thereafter egg counts steadily increased. Ivermectin reduced the EPG by >98% for up to 6 weeks. …

A Case Of Aelurostrongylus Abstrusus Infection In A Cat In İstanbul, Turkey And Its Treatment With Moxidectin And Levamisole, Erkut Tüzer, Müfi̇t Toparlak, Ayşen Gargili, Vedat Keleş, Meltem Ulutaş Esatgi̇l

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Larvae of Aelurostrongylus abstrusus were identified in the feces of a 2-year-old female cat suffering from dyspnea and incoordination for 18 months. The larvae had a terminal S-shaped projection and a subterminal dorsal spine. The larvae measured 363-378x15 µm (aver. 370x15 µm). Firstly, moxidectin (0.4 mg/kg) was given subcutaneously to 3 healthy stray cats over 1 year old to check adverse effects on cats. No adverse reaction was observed. Then a subcutaneous injection of moxidectin (0.4 mg/kg) was given to the infected cat for treatment on day 0 and this was repeated on day 51. Seventy-nine days after the 2nd …

Efficacy Of Moxidectin Against Gastrointestinal Nematodesin Naturally Infected Lambs And Calves, Erkut Tüzer, Müfi̇t Toparlak, Kazim Göksu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this trial based on the reduction of the egg output and on the evaluation of results from larval/egg differentiation, moxidectin (Cydectin, 1% injectable moxidectin) administrated subcutaneously at a dose of 0.2 mg kgbw -1 was found effective on the gastrointestinal nematodes in naturally infected lambs (8 female and 7 male treatment; 8 female and 7 male control) harbored Haemonchus spp, Ostertagia spp, Trichostrongylus spp and Nematodirus spp and in naturally infected female calves (20 treatment and 10 control) harbored Haemonchus spp, Ostertagia spp, Trichostrongylus spp, Bunostomum sppand Cooperia spp.The efficacy was 100% on day +7, 99.9% on day +14 …

Efficacy Of Moxidectin Against Toxocara Canis Inexperimentally Infected Dogs, Ayşen Gargili, Erkut Tüzer, Aynur Gülanber, Müfi̇t Toparlak, İlker Efi̇l, Vedat Keleş, Meltem Ulutaş

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, 6 six-week-old puppies born of a stray bitch were used. Four of them were 5 kg, one of them 7 kg and the last 8 kg. Before egg inoculation, fecal examination by flotation technique showed that the animals had no helminth infection. Each puppy was infected orally with 150 embriyonated Toxocara canis eggs. When the egg first seen in their faeces after inoculation, Moxidectin (Cytectin 1% inj) at a dose of 0.2 mg/kgbw was given subcutaneously. Fecal examinations were performed by flotation technique, on day-0 (treatment day), day-7, day-14 and day-21, and EPG values were calculated on …

Therapy Of Knemidocoptic Mange In Budgerigars With Spot-On Applicationof Moxidectin, Müfi̇t Toparlak, Erkut Tüzer, Ayşen Gargili, Aynur Gülanber Jan 1999

Therapy Of Knemidocoptic Mange In Budgerigars With Spot-On Applicationof Moxidectin, Müfi̇t Toparlak, Erkut Tüzer, Ayşen Gargili, Aynur Gülanber

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, 30 Budgerigars ( Melopsittacus undulatus) with Knemidocoptes pilae infection were treated with a spot-on application of moxidectin (Cydectin® Injection For Cattle) at a dose of 1 mg (0.1 ml Cydectin) per bird. This application was given once to 10 birds and twice at 10 days intervals to 20 birds. Clinical signs in all birds of both groups disappeared 30-40 days after treatment. No side effects were seen.

Efficacy Of Moxidectin Against Aspiculuris Tetrapteraand Syphacia Murisinnaturally Infected Rats, Ayşen Gargili, Erkut Tüzer, Aynur Gülanber, İlker Efil, Vedat Keleş, Meltem Ulutaş, Müfit Toparlak

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, 56 rats (Rattus norvegicus) naturally infected with both Aspiculuris tetraptera and Syphacia muris were used. The animals were randomly divided into the treatment (37 animals) and control (19 animals) groups. Moxidectin (Cydectin enj., %1 Moxidectin) at 0.2 mg/kgbw was given subcutaneously to the treatment group. The faeces of both groups were examined on days 0, 7, 14, 21, 28. The post-mortem examination of one animal from each group was performed to confirm the EPG results on days mentioned above. The percentage efficacy was measured on the basis of the reduction of the eggs. The eggs and adults …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Twenty naturally infected horses were divided into two groups (10 control and 10 experimental) according to EPG values. An injectable formulation of moxidectin, in a dose of 0.3 mg/kg, was given to the horses orally in jam syrup. The evaluation of drug efficacy was based on EPG values. The same dose of the drug was applied to an additional 25 horses to test for side effects. The drug was found to be highly effective (100%) against strongylin parasites on days 7, 14. and 21. No side effects were observed.
