Aim: To measure serum vitamin D levels of pregnant women in the last trimester and to determine factors affecting serum levels. Methods: Seventy-eight pregnant women, 19-39 years old and having their third trimester between March and May 2000, were enrolled. Serum Ca, P and alkaline phosphatase and 25-hydroxyvitamin D_3 levels were measured in venous blood samples during the third trimester. Maternal age, education, socioeconomic status, number of gravida, nutrition, dressing habits and daily exposure time to sunlight were determined and their correlation with serum vitamin D levels were analyzed statistically. Fibronectins are considered to be molecules that play important roles in cell migration and cell differentiation. Fibronectin molecules are thought to influence the differentiation of trophoblasts and the adhesion of these cells to maternal tissues. The aim of the present study was to analyze the distribution of fibronectin isoforms and to evaluate the differences between matrix-type fibrinoids, and other types of matrices produced by both maternal and fetal tissues. Tissue samples were collected from different sites of human term placentas. By using immunohistochemistry, the expression of fibronectin isoforms was determined and they were demonstrated by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting methods. …
