Mental illness is common in the United States, affecting millions of people. Although there are effective medications for mental illness, psychotherapy in addition to pharmacotherapy provides the best outcomes. This project aimed to improve providers' psychotherapy screening and education of patients about psychotherapy utilization. A pre-implementation survey was conducted to evaluate psychotherapy screening and the barriers faced by providers to utilize psychotherapy screening. An education session was provided to the providers about the importance of psychotherapy screening and education. Data showed that the providers discussed psychotherapy with eight patients (40%) and educated four patients (20%) pre-implementation. Data showed that the …

Background. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and individuals who identify as transgender and queer (LGBTQ) often experience negative healthcare encounters (Parameshwaran et al., 2017). According to the Williams Institute of Law (2022), there are 1.3 million adults who self-identify as transgender. This education project utilized a pre/post-test design to explore attitudes, practices, and knowledge of primary care providers when interfacing with individuals who identify as transgender in primary health care settings.

Theoretical Framework. This project was guided by Lewin’s Change Theory.

Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality are significantly higher among individuals living in rural areas compared to urban and suburban settings. Some contributing factors include financial limitations, education level, and limited access to cardiovascular specialty healthcare. Using a team-based cardiovascular care approach in rural communities, including both nurse practitioners and physicians, could help improve access to cardiovascular health services. Many barriers exist at a 134-bed rural hospital in southern Illinois that hinder generation, evaluation, and implementation of evidence-based research into practice. This DNP project was completed through a phase approach utilizing a modified version of Kotter’s Model of Change, the RNcEBP Survey to self-rate individual confidence in the EBP process, and the Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice to facilitate implementation of journal clubs.
