Our Pathscan Enabler IV, delivered July 2014, uses the QuickScan software to scan a histology slide in "two clicks" (after loading the

slide):

1. Push the QuickScan button on the front of the Pathscan Enabler.

2. Click the Scan button in the QuickScan pop-up application (optional: change scan area in the Prescan image window).

The image gets saved as a TIFF file to the Windows 7 (64-bit) desktop.

I have been using Pathscan Enabler's since version I in 2000. See Chantrain et al 2003:

Bayesian Joint Selection Of Genes And Pathways: Applications In Multiple Myeloma Genomics, Lin Zhang, Jeffrey S. Morris, Jiexin Zhang, Robert Orlowski, Veerabhadran Baladandayuthapani Jan 2014

Bayesian Joint Selection Of Genes And Pathways: Applications In Multiple Myeloma Genomics, Lin Zhang, Jeffrey S. Morris, Jiexin Zhang, Robert Orlowski, Veerabhadran Baladandayuthapani

Jeffrey S. Morris

It is well-established that the development of a disease, especially cancer, is a complex process that results from the joint effects of multiple genes involved in various molecular signaling pathways. In this article, we propose methods to discover genes and molecular pathways significantly associ- ated with clinical outcomes in cancer samples. We exploit the natural hierarchal structure of genes related to a given pathway as a group of interacting genes to conduct selection of both pathways and genes. We posit the problem in a hierarchical structured variable selection (HSVS) framework to analyze the corresponding gene expression data. HSVS methods conduct …

Characterization Of Bovine-Derived Porous Hydroxyapatite Scaffold And Its Potential To Support Osteogenic Differentiation Of Human Bone Marrow Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells., Krishnamurithy G, Murali Mr, Hamdi M, Abbas Aa, Raghavendran Hb, Kamarul T Jan 2014

Characterization Of Bovine-Derived Porous Hydroxyapatite Scaffold And Its Potential To Support Osteogenic Differentiation Of Human Bone Marrow Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells., Krishnamurithy G, Murali Mr, Hamdi M, Abbas Aa, Raghavendran Hb, Kamarul T

Murali Malliga Raman

Porous three-dimensional hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffolds were prepared using bovine cortical bone derived HA (BDHA). Analyses of the morphology, chemical composition, and phase purity of the scaffold were performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), micro-computer tomography (micro-CT), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). SEM images revealed the rough and porous surface of the scaffold, while micro-CT showed the average porous volume of 76.7±0.6% and pore size of 0.04–0.25 mm. Single phase corresponding to standard HA was observed using XRD, and FTIR confirmed the presence of functional groups similar to HA. The EDX analysis …

Histology, Glycosaminoglycan Level And Cartilage Stiffness In Monoiodoacetate-Induced Osteoarthritis: Comparative Analysis With Anterior Cruciate Ligament Transection In Rat Model And Human Osteoarthritis, Naveen Sv, Ahmad Re, Hui Wj, Suhaeb Am, Murali Malliga Raman, Shanmugam R, Kamarul T Jan 2014

Histology, Glycosaminoglycan Level And Cartilage Stiffness In Monoiodoacetate-Induced Osteoarthritis: Comparative Analysis With Anterior Cruciate Ligament Transection In Rat Model And Human Osteoarthritis, Naveen Sv, Ahmad Re, Hui Wj, Suhaeb Am, Murali Malliga Raman, Shanmugam R, Kamarul T

Murali Malliga Raman

Monosodium -iodoacetate (MIA)-induced animal model of osteoarthritis (OA) is under-utilised despite having many inherent advantages. At present, there is lack of studies that directly compare the degenerative changes induced by MIA with the surgical osteoarthritis induction method and human osteoarthritis, which would further verify a greater use of this model. Therefore, we compared the histological, biochemical and biomechanical characteristics in rat model using MIA against the anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) and human cartilage with clinically established osteoarthritis. The right knees of Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to either MIA or ACLT (n=18 in each group). Six rats were used as …

Fluoroscopy Assisted Minimally Invasive Transplantation Of Allogenic Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Embedded In Hystemtm Reduce The Progression Nucleus Pulposus Degeneration In The Damaged Intervertebral Disc - A Preliminary Study In Rabbits, Suhban Ra, Puvanan K, Murali Mr, Raghavendran Hb, Shani S, Abdullah Bj, Abbas Aa, Mohamad Ja, Kamarul T Jan 2014

Fluoroscopy Assisted Minimally Invasive Transplantation Of Allogenic Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Embedded In Hystemtm Reduce The Progression Nucleus Pulposus Degeneration In The Damaged Intervertebral Disc - A Preliminary Study In Rabbits, Suhban Ra, Puvanan K, Murali Mr, Raghavendran Hb, Shani S, Abdullah Bj, Abbas Aa, Mohamad Ja, Kamarul T

Murali Malliga Raman

This study was conducted to develop a technique for minimally invasive and accurate delivery of stem cells to augment nucleus pulposus (NP) in damaged intervertebral discs (IVD). IVD damage was created in noncontiguous discs at L4-L5 level; rabbits (N = 12) were randomly divided into three groups: group I treated with MSCs in HyStem hydrogel, group II treated with HyStem alone, and group III received no intervention. MSCs and hydrogel were administered to the damaged disc under guidance of fluoroscopy. Augmentation of NP was assessed through histological and MRI T2 mapping of the NP after eight weeks of transplantation. T2 …

Transmission Of Ranavirus Between Ectothermic Vertebrate Hosts, R Brenes, Matt J. Gray, T B. Waltzek, Rebecca P. Wilkes, Debra L. Miller Jan 2014

Transmission Of Ranavirus Between Ectothermic Vertebrate Hosts, R Brenes, Matt J. Gray, T B. Waltzek, Rebecca P. Wilkes, Debra L. Miller

Debra L Miller

Transmission is an essential process that contributes to the survival of pathogens. Ranaviruses are known to infect different classes of lower vertebrates including amphibians, fishes and reptiles. Differences in the likelihood of infection among ectothermic vertebrate hosts could explain the successful yearlong persistence of ranaviruses in aquatic environments. The goal of this study was to determine if transmission of a Frog Virus 3 (FV3)-like ranavirus was possible among three species from different ectothermic vertebrate classes: Cope's gray treefrog (Hyla chrysoscelis) larvae, mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis), and red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans). We housed individuals previously exposed to the FV3-like ranavirus …
