ABSTRACT The role of iron in the development of cancer remains unclear. We previously reported that iron reduces cell survival in a Ras/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)-dependent manner in ovarian cells; however, the underlying downstream pathway leading to reduced survival was unclear. Although levels of intracellular iron, ferritin/CD71 protein and reactive oxygen species did not correlate with iron-induced cell survival changes, we identified mitochondrial damage (via TEM) and reduced expression of outer mitochondrial membrane proteins (translocase of outer membrane: TOM20 and TOM70) in cell lines sensitive to iron. Materials and Methods: A total of 197 participants were randomly assigned to either the 8-week Kuala Lumpur Qigong Trial or control groups in 2010-2011. Grisel syndrome is defined as atlanto-axial subluxation following infections of upper airway. These patients present with torticollis which is persistent. Radiology is normal in these patients. This is actually a sinister problem which should always be kept in mind before taking up a patient for adenotonsillectomy. Subclinical subluxation of atlanto-axial joint may become overt causing brain stem compression following adenotonsillectomy surgery. This actually occurs because the paraspinal muscles are relaxed (due to the use of muscle relaxants) during the procedure. Common complaints with which patients presented to our Institution was swelling over jaw, next was loosening of dentition, paresthesia. 30 patients had presented with cysts involving upper jaw out of which 29 were females and one was male. Background: Accurate measures of the total polyp burden in familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) are lacking. Current assessment tools include polyp quantitation in limited-field photographs and qualitative total colorectal polyp burden by video.

Objective: To develop global quantitative tools of the FAP colorectal adenoma burden.

Design: A single-arm, phase II trial.

Patients: Twenty-seven patients with FAP.

This is a case report of a rather rare disorder i.e. Ramsay Hunt syndrome. This is caused by Varicella zoster infections involving geniculate ganglion of facial nerve. This syndrome is manifested by the presence of blebs in the external auditory canal, ear ache, and lower motor neurone type of facial paralysis. Eosinophilic otitis media is actually a recent introduction. These patients may manifest with sudden hearing loss. There may be associated bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis. The enhanced transmission of higher order plasmon modes with random gold nanoparticles embedded in periodic hole arrays using asymmetric pair aperture as a unit is investigated in the midinfrared regime. Different thicknesses of gold film were deposited inside holes and then annealed to form randomly sized and distributed nanoparticles. The holes deposited with thin gold film exhibit significantly enhanced transmission in higher order modes after thermal annealing. The enormous local electric field around the nanoparticles enhances the scattering effect that contributes to the enhanced infrared transmission.
