Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder that affects millions of people. The trend continues to be upward. Youth and children are not exempt from this. It is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia. Causes are impaired insulin secretion, resistance to the peripheral action of insulin, or both. There are three types of diabetes: type 1, type 2, and gestational. Type 2 DM accounts for around 90% of all cases of DM.
