A study of a sample (n=59) of college students at a small, liberal arts university investigated the efficacy of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010’s Section 4205, which necessitated calorie labeling on menus of all restaurants, including fast food establishments, with 20 or more locations. The control group (n=31) of students was presented with popular fast food menu items as they currently appear on the menu, without caloric content or a recommended calorie intake statement. The experimental group (n=28) was presented with the same menu with caloric content and a statement regarding suggested daily intake. Each menu …

Marriage And Religion: The Effect Of Religious Study Materials On Marital Happiness, Rose E M Zell
Honors Program Projects
The purpose of this research was to assess the impact of marital enrichment materials on marital happiness. In addition, the study attempted to determine if gender or number of years married made a difference in regard to the impact on marital happiness. The participants consisted of 56 New Life Christian Church members (28 male and 28 female) who comprised 28 married couples. Participants were randomly assigned to either the control or the experimental group. Every participant took a pre-test survey designed to assess marital happiness across ten different variables. Then the experimental group completed the Love Talk study by Les …

As humans age, fluorescent retinoid pigments accumulate in the retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells responsible for photoreceptor support. These fluorophores are of interest because they seem to contribute to diseases of the retina, particularly age-related macular degeneration, which is a leading cause of blindness in older adults in the United States and currently has no cure. One well-characterized fluorophore, A2E, can be oxidized by visible light and then generate harmful oxidative species capable of inducing programmed cell death in RPE cells. Further characterization of the redox behavior of A2E could ultimately aid the development of macular degeneration treatments designed to …
