The Comparative Effects Of 0.12% Chlorhexidine And An Herbal Oral Rinse On Dental Plaque-Induced Gingivitis, Elizabeth N. Southern
Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of 0.12% chlorhexidine rinse (CID{) and herbal rinse (HBR) to placebo, on gingival health status over time. Methods: 63 subjects (57% male, 43% female, mean age 25 years, sd=7.67) were randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups; CHX, HBR, or placebo. Subjects rinsed twice daily (AM and PM) with ½ ounce of allocated rinse, after brushing and flossing, for three months. Subjects were given the same type of soft bristle toothbrush and whitening toothpaste. Participants were advised to refrain from use of any other oral rinse for the duration …
Sulphur By-Product: A Potential Indicator Of Early Dental Plaque-Induced Gingival Disease Activity: A Pilot Study, Hui Zhou
Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between volatile sulfide compounds and gingival health status, and to identify if volatile sulfide compounds can detect early dental plaque-induced gingival disease, using an experimental gingivitis model. The sample consisted of 12 subjects between 19 and 28 years, with a healthy gingival status. A split-mouth design utilizing only the mandibular arch was used. A baseline full-mouth periodontal probing status was measured. After baseline data collection and for two weeks, subjects refrained from brushing and flossing one randomly selected half of the mandibular arch. At baseline and six subsequent appointments, gingival …
Clinical Effects Of Daily Rotary Electric Toothbrushing On The Presence Of Gingivitis And Supragingival Dental Plaque, Laura Jean Mueller
Clinical Effects Of Daily Rotary Electric Toothbrushing On The Presence Of Gingivitis And Supragingival Dental Plaque, Laura Jean Mueller
Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this investigation was to determine if statistically significant differences existed in the gingival health of subjects who brushed with a rotary electric toothbrush (Rota-dentR when compared to a conventional toothbrush (Oral B-35R). A randomized, two group research design was employed using forty subjects. At baseline and at two week intervals for six weeks, gingivitis and supragingival dental plaque were measured by the Loe and Silness Gingival Index and the O'Leary Plaque Index, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that the Rota-dentR was superior to the conventional toothbrush in reducing dental plaque accumulation and equally effective …
Clinical Effectiveness Of ListerineR And ViadentR Mouthrinses On Bacterial Plaque And Gingivitis, Debra Pizzola Powell
Clinical Effectiveness Of ListerineR And ViadentR Mouthrinses On Bacterial Plaque And Gingivitis, Debra Pizzola Powell
Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of two commercial mouth rinses, ListerineR and ViadentR, on bacterial plaque and gingivitis. over a sixweek period, 24 adults, ages 18-41, were examined for the amount of bacterial plaque and level of gingivitis using Silness and toe's Plaque Index (PLI) and Gingival Index (GI). At the beginning of each two week period, subjects were examined for the amount of plaque and level of gingivitis and given a different mouthrinse: appointment one--viadentR (mouthrinse A), appointment two--placebo mouthrinse (mouthrinse B), and appointment three--ListerineR (mouthrinse C). Additionally, subjects …
