Background: Arthrogryposis is a term used to describe the development of nonprogressive contractures in one or more body parts before birth (congenitally). A contracture is a condition in which a joint becomes permanently stuck in a bent (flexed) or straightened (extended) position, limiting movement of the affected joint totally or partially. When congenital contractures affect only one body part, they are referred to as isolated congenital contractures rather than arthrogryposis. Clubfoot is the most common solitary congenital contracture. Arthrogryposis multiplex refers to arthrogryposis that affects two or more separate parts of the body.

Abstract

Introduction

Children experience significant pain and distress during paediatric procedures, especially during intravenous (IV) cannulation. Several non-pharmacological interventions are in use for this purpose. Many distraction techniques are suggested.

Methods

A randomised controlled trial was conducted among 60 children in the age group of 4-12 years undergoing first IV cannulation after admission to evaluate the effectiveness of kaleidoscope compared to standard treatment on pain and behaviour response. Through block randomisation, 30 children were allocated to each group. Standard tools were used to assess pain and behaviour response.

Introduction: ALCAPA – ‘Anomalous Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery’, it is an infrequent congenital cardiovascular abnormality distinguished by the ‘left coronary artery’ originating from the ‘pulmonary artery’ in place of its normal origin, the aorta. Failing to treat this critical condition, might result in myocardial ischemia, left ventricular dysfunction, and a risk of sudden heart-related death.

Clinical manifestations: Exertional chest pain and fatigue since 6 months.

Vanishing twin’s syndrome refers to the death of one of the co-twin foetus(es) during the early antenatal period. The cause of vanishing twins is unknown and most cases occur with in-vitro fertilization (IVF) conception. Transvaginal ultrasonography helps to detect lost twins during the early trimester. The complications that may arise among neonates born to women with a known history of vanishing twin syndrome are low birth weight and low Apgar score at birth.

Introduction: The present investigation highlights the formulation of buccoadhesive tablets of Ketotifen fumarate, a second-generation H1-antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer. The properties of Ketotifen may contribute to its antiallergic activity. Method: The mucoadhesive buccal tablets of Ketotifen fumarate were prepared by direct compression method using natural polymers like sodium alginate, xanthan gum, karaya gum, and gaur gum along with carbopol 934P in different ratios. Autism, otherwise identified under the DSM 5 Diagnostic and Statistical Classification as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental genetic developmental disorder among children, which can affect the social communication, changes in sensory aspects and repetitive, ritualistic patterns of behaviour. The present report describes a case study of a child who was diagnosed with autism. The report follows the child’s history from birth till diagnosis and explores the challenges faced by the child and parents to obtain necessary care for the child during the current pandemic situation in an attempt to raise awareness regarding the condition among health professionals.
