A Novel Patient-Oriented Tool For Evaluating Quality Measurements., Sarah Rawi, Alec Freling, Adam Hemminger, Mark Wendling Md
Department of Family Medicine
Quality measurements (QMs) have emerged as quantitative tools for measuring "quality", an elusive term that has been historically difficult to define and quantify. However, current literature has demonstrated that these measurements are flawed. The purpose of this study was to identify the strengths and weaknesses of quality measurements and provide a novel scorecard for evaluating quality measurements. In this retrospective analysis, 246 quality measurements that are integrated into the most significant payer-provider contracts within our institution were analyzed. Each measurement was dissected based on type of measurement, evidence, precision, data exchange, alignment, and how patient-oriented. Our research showed a significant …

Continuous Quality Improvement Methodology: A Case Study On Multidisciplinary Collaboration To Improve Chlamydia Screening, Allison Ursu, Grant M. Greenberg M.D., M.H.S.A., M.A., Michael Mckee
Department of Family Medicine
This article illustrates quality improvement (QI) methodology using an example intended to improve chlamydia screening in women. QI projects in healthcare provide great opportunities to improve patient quality and safety in a real-world healthcare setting, yet many academic centres lack training programmes on how to conduct QI projects. The choice of chlamydia screening was based on the significant health burden chlamydia poses despite simple ways to screen and treat. At the University of Michigan, we implemented a multidepartment process to improve the chlamydia screening rates using the plan-do-check-act model. Steps to guide QI projects include the following: (1) assemble a …
