Purpose. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of chronic L-carnitine and carbohydrate supplementation on body composition, perceived exertion, and athletic performance in recreationally-trained female endurance runners. Methods. On three separate occasions, twenty-one days a part, seven recreationally-trained female endurance runners performed a timed progressive treadmill test to exhaustion as well as a body composition assessment using the Bod PodÒ. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups – L-carnitine (LC) or L-carnitine plus carbohydrates (LC + CHO).
