A 3-month-old 13 kg intact female American pit bull dog was presented with a history of chronic sneezing, nasal discharge, oronasal reflux, and aspiration with food and water. Oral examination under general anesthesia revealed a shortened soft palate extended caudally from the hard palate. As a result, bilateral soft palate hypoplasia was diagnosed. The dog was operated upon by using soft palate hinged-flap combined with bilateral buccal mucosal rotation flaps techniques. Ten days after surgery, the dog was eating well and the nasal discharge was resolved. Oral examination showed that the new soft palate had healed well. A follow-up after …

A Case Of Acquired Idiopathic Megaoesophagus In A Dog: The Use Of Sildenafil As Treatment, Yeremia Yobelanno Sitompul, Willy Moris Nainggolan, Bradley O’Hagan

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Acquired idiopathic megaoesophagus in dogs is rarely found in Indonesia. In this case report, a dachshund dog was presented with a history of vomiting after eating. Clinical examination, complete blood count, kidney, and liver tests identified only minor dehydration. On observation of the dog after eating, the sign reported as vomiting was confirmed as regurgitation. Radiography and contrast studies identified a significantly dilated oesophagus. With an absence of other clinical abnormalities, the dog was diagnosed with idiopathic megaoesophagus and prescribed treatment with sildenafil twice daily at 0.75mg/kg for five days, along with postural management of feeding. Treatment resulted in cessation …

A ten-year-old, 16.7 kg mixed-breed dog presented with chronic lameness and delayed healing of discharging wounds in the right pelvic limb following a puncture injury for approximately 6 months. Debridement surgery had been performed, but the tissue infection was persistent. Plain radiographic examination showed neither increased soft tissue opacity nor foreign body (FB) existence near the discharging wound of the right pelvic limb. After the second debridement surgery, closed drainage tubes were placed, and susceptible antibiotic therapy was prescribed in an attempt to control the persistent infection, but the fluid draining from the wound was still purulent. Therefore, fistulography was …

Computed Tomographic Appearance Of Bladder And Vaginal Leiomyoma In Dog: Case Report, Sirirat Phantharangsi, Sukanya Maneein, Sekkarin Ploypetch

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

An 18-year-old, female Shih Tzu dog was presented at Prasu-Arthorn Animal Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Mahidol University with the clinical signs of abdominal enlargement, constipation and urine incontinence. The survey abdominal radiographs demonstrated only a caudal large oval soft tissue abdominal mass and abdominal ultrasonography was suggested to indicate the mass origin. However, ultrasonographic finding did not identify the mass location and tissue invasiveness so computed tomography (CT) was requested. The CT result revealed that the mass was a mixed heterogenous attenuating and fluid attenuating mass (8.56 x 5.47 x 6.72 cm) at the uterine body and involved the …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Diagnostic imaging techniques, especially radiography and ultrasonography, have been applied as routine diagnostic tools in clinical practice of both human and veterinary medicine. Soft embalmed cadavers by Thiel’s method is a new method for preserving dead bodies that has been increasingly used in medical education especially in diagnostic imaging fields. The aims of this study were, first, to examine the feasibility of using canine and feline soft cadavers in radiographic and ultrasonographic study and training. Second, to evaluate the procedure score and image quality score of radiography and ultrasonography using the soft cadaver dogs and cats as the model. All …

A four-year old, intact female Labrador Retriever dog was presented with a history and clinical signs of vomiting, anorexia and mild dyspnea. Further laboratory examination, by specific canine pancreatic lipase (cPL) test kit and abdominal ultrasound, indicated acute pancreatitis. Results from thoracic radiography and computerized tomography scan showed masses in the cranial and middle mediastinal areas. A cytology examination revealed pyogranulomatous inflammation with the presence of fungal hyphae whereas Aspergillus niger was isolated and identified. Systemic aspergillosis was diagnosed. Many antifungal drugs were introduced and the clinical outcomes were discussed with careful consideration.

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A one-year-old, spayed female Welsh Corgi dog referred to the dental and oral clinic with chief complaint of apparent pitted, rough teeth surfaces, stained a tan to dark brown color. The dog was diagnosed with diffused enamel hypoplasia with no evidence of endodontic disease or malformation of tooth root. A restorative procedure with nanohybrid composite resin was performed. After treatment, the dog showed a good outcome with a smooth tooth surface, restorative material replaced to cover the previous defect and no evidence of pain or discomfort. Even though enamel hypoplasia is a rare, this condition remains an important problem that …

A 4-year-old male Labrador retriever dog presented with a history of conjunctivitis OU and mild buphthalmos OS for one week. Ophthalmic examination revealed corneal edema, conjunctivitis, iritis, aqueous flare, posterior synechia, fibrin on the anterior lens capsule, increased intraocular pressure (IOP =30 mmHg OD; IOP = 48 mmHg OS), weak positive menace response, brisk positive dazzle reflex and negative pupillary light reflex OU. The iridocorneal angle could not be visualized due to corneal edema. Physical examination, hematology and blood chemistry results were normal. Both eyes were diagnosed as having glaucoma and uveitis. Topical prednisolone acetate, atropine sulfate, brinzolamide and timolol …

Successful Management Of Hypoadrenocorticism In A French Bulldog By A Smaller Dose And Lesser Frequency Of The Desoxycorticosterone Pivalate: A Case Report, Phuttipan Channgam, Walasinee Sakcamduang

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A 1 year and 4 months old, intact female French Bulldog was presented because of weakness, anorexia, and vomiting for 3 days. Laboratory findings included azotemia, hyponatremia, hypochloremia, sodium to potassium (Na:K) ratio was 23.88, and the lower level of basal cortisol concentration than the detection limit. The small size of both adrenal glands obtained from abdominal ultrasonography. Subsequently, the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation test was performed, and the diagnosis of hypoadrenocorticism was confirmed. The desoxycorticosterone pivalate (DOCP) with a smaller dose and lesser frequency than the recommendation of 2.2 mg/kg every 25 days. The dog received DOCP subcutaneous injection …

Clinical Evaluation Of The Accuracy Of Foetal Radiographic Findings In Parturition Date Prediction Of Small Size Dogs, Panthipa Borikappakul, Nardtiwa Chaivoravitsakul, Rampaipat Penchome, Suppawiwat Ponglowhapan Mar 2021

Clinical Evaluation Of The Accuracy Of Foetal Radiographic Findings In Parturition Date Prediction Of Small Size Dogs, Panthipa Borikappakul, Nardtiwa Chaivoravitsakul, Rampaipat Penchome, Suppawiwat Ponglowhapan

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Ultrasonographic measurements of extra-foetal or foetal structures have been reported as an accurate means of predicting the date of parturition in the bitch. However, for many years, radiography has been clinically useful for pregnancy diagnosis, determining the number of foetuses and prolonged foetal death. Guidelines for estimating the canine parturition date based on foetal skeletal mineralization in relation to gestational age and preovulatory LH surge have been applied in small animal practice. The aims of this retrospective study were to evaluate the accuracy of parturition date prediction using foetal radiographic findings in small size dogs (1-10 kg), and to determine …
