Providing health care for children is a unique specialty, and pediatric patients represent approximately 25% of the population. Education of pharmacy students on patients across the lifespan is required by current Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education standards and outcomes; thus, it is essential that pharmacy students gain a proficiency in caring for children. A collaborative panel of pediatric faculty members from schools and colleges of pharmacy was established to review the current literature regarding pediatric education in Doctor of Pharmacy curricula and establish updated recommendations for the provision of pediatric pharmacy education. This statement outlines five recommendations supporting inclusion of …

Scholars Symposium
Purpose. Homeless women who struggle with substance use disorder have a difficult time finding inpatient treatment. Her Story provides these women with housing, support and health care until they are connected to inpatient rehabilitation. Upon graduating from inpatient rehabilitation, continuity of care and support are lacking. The collaborative practice model aims to fill the gaps in health care coordination and community involvement before and after inpatient rehabilitation for women in recovery.
Methods. Multiple disciplines including social work, occupational therapy and pharmacy are working together to provide women with the opportunity to take control of their care. Through an innovative patient-centered …

Evaluation Of A Sepsis Teaching Rounds Simulation For Pharmacy Students, Zach Jenkins, Emily Laswell, Nicole K. Stute
Evaluation Of A Sepsis Teaching Rounds Simulation For Pharmacy Students, Zach Jenkins, Emily Laswell, Nicole K. Stute
Pharmacy Practice Faculty Publications
Background and purpose
The goal of this prospective, observational cohort study was to determine if simulated interdisciplinary teaching rounds improved student perceptions of confidence and attitudes towards working as part of a team. The secondary objective of this study was to investigate changes in student knowledge of the management of sepsis.
Educational activity and setting
Students participated in a traditional sepsis lecture followed by a simulated interdisciplinary rounding experience. Confidence and collaborative attitudes were assessed using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = strongly disagree, 5 = strongly agree). Changes in knowledge were measured using multiple choice questions. Students completed these …

Introduction to Public Health Posters
Human trafficking is a current problem that health professionals, such as pharmacists, should be aware of. This poster was created as a group project by pre-pharmacy majors and exhibited to faculty and graduate pharmacy students. The primary purpose of the project was to learn about human trafficking as a public health concern, increase awareness, and search for ways to reduce the problem. The poster highlights the different forms of human trafficking and what determinants of health apply to this problem. It also seeks to show how human trafficking relates to the pharmacy profession.

A few organizations working towards this problem, and who keep a close eye on this issue are mentioned as well. We also discuss the determinants of health, which is essentially what is being done about it politically, individually, and the health …

Correlation Study: Student Success In Biochemistry As A Prerequisite For Integrated Pharmacology And Medicinal Chemistry, April Filter, Stacy Lin, Sydney Schultz, Rachel Anderson, Tori Twinem, Denise S. Simpson, Melissa J. Beck
The Research and Scholarship Symposium (2013-2019)
Background
A rise in new schools of pharmacy has led to implementation of new curriculums. Pharmacy schools must adhere to standards set by the Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education in order to provide knowledge of foundational sciences and prepare pharmacy students for the future. Prerequisites are typically foundational science courses taken early in the program so that students have the knowledge necessary to be excellent pharmacists. Within the Cedarville University School of Pharmacy, Biochemistry is a prerequisite course for Integrated Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology (PCoMedChem).
Objectives
The goal of this study is to determine if Biochemistry should remain a prerequisite …
