Background: Preterm births are the leading cause of death worldwide. Preterm births not only have devastating effects on the new born, but they also have psychological effects on the mothers. Identifying stress related to preterm births, and the factors associated with the stress among mothers with preterm infants is of great importance, for providing sound care to the newborns and their mothers. Background: Midwives in Uganda face challenges that predispose them to vulnerability and traumatic work-related stress which may impact the provision of quality midwifery care and the well-being of midwives. This study aimed at exploring the prevalence and sources of work-related stress and comparing the differences in the experiences of stress among rural or urban midwives and private or public midwives in health facilities in central Uganda.

The pursuit of flourishing, or living a good life, is a common human endeavor with different meanings across individuals and contexts. What is needed is a further exploration of the relationship between flourishing and health, particularly chronic illness, which affects individuals across the life course and is affected by experiences of stress derived from social and structural vulnerability.
