Objective: Parosteal Osteosarcoma (PO) is an uncommon variant of osteosarcoma. Diagnosing PO is important due to its malignant nature but the diversity of histologic features makes it challenging by adding a number of soft tissue, bony and cartilaginous lesions into the list of differential diagnosis. Our aim was to study the clinicopathologic and histological features of PO with emphasis on features helpful in its discrimination from other mimicking lesions. Methods: We reviewed 23 cases of PO diagnosed in our institution between January 2001 and August 2015. Results: Femur was the most commonly involved bone (68.2%) along with other long bones …

Segmental Excision Versus Intralesional Curettage With Adjuvant Therapy For Giant Cell Tumour Of Bone, Omar Yacob, Masood Umer, Marrium Gul, Irfan Qadir

Department of Radiology

Abstract

PURPOSE:

To review the functional outcome and local recurrence rate of 29 patients who underwent segmental excision or intralesionalcurettage with adjuvant therapy for giant cell tumour (GCT) of bone.

METHODS:

Records of 17 men and 12 women (mean age, 30.17 years) who underwent segmental excision (n=18) or intralesional curettage followed by adjuvant therapy (n=11) for GCT of the femur (n=13), tibia (n=8), radius (n=6), or ulna (n=2) were reviewed. Nine of the patients had recurrent GCT of bone and had undergone segmental excision (n=6) or intralesional curettage (n=3) elsewhere. Functional outcome was evaluated using the Musculoskeletal Tumour Society (MSTS) …

Hip Reconstruction Osteotomy By Ilizarov Method As A Salvage Option For Abnormal Hip Joints, Masood Umer, Haroon Rashid, Hafiz Muhammad Umer, Hasnain Raza May 2014

Hip Reconstruction Osteotomy By Ilizarov Method As A Salvage Option For Abnormal Hip Joints, Masood Umer, Haroon Rashid, Hafiz Muhammad Umer, Hasnain Raza

Department of Radiology

Hip joint instability can be secondary to congenital hip pathologies like developmental dysplasia (DDH) or acquired such as sequel of infective or neoplastic process. An unstable hip is usually associated with loss of bone from the proximal femur, proximal migration of the femur, lower-extremity length discrepancy, abnormal gait, and pain. In this case series of 37 patients coming to our institution between May 2005 and December 2011, we report our results in treatment of unstable hip joint by hip reconstruction osteotomy using the Ilizarov method and apparatus. This includes an acute valgus and extension osteotomy of the proximal femur combined …

Mri Features Of Spinal Fluorosis: Results Of An Endemic Community Screening, Iftekhar Ahmed, Saba Sohail, Munawwar Hussain, Nazeer Khan, Masood Hameed Khan

Department of Radiology

Objectives: Fluorosis is endemic in many parts of the world. However community studies on MRI features of fluorosis are lacking. The aim of this study was to determine MRI features of spinal changes in a community with endemic fluorosis in the Thar Desert Pakistan.
Methodology: Randomly selected adults from the Village Samorindh, district Tharparker, Sindh, Pakistan, with spinal fluorosis diagnosed on plain x-rays and raised serum fluoride levels were studied from June 2008 to January 2009. MRI was carried out on 0.5 T open magnet MRI system. Features of vertebral body, spinal ligaments, intervertebral disc, facet joints, iliac wings and …
