Background: The potential benefits of individualized guided selection of antiplatelet therapy over standard antiplatelet therapy in improving outcomes in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) have not been established. Therefore, we pooled evidence from available clinical trials to assess the effectiveness by comparing the two regimens in patients undergoing PCI.

Influenza outbreaks are associated with significant morbidity. Our aim was to determine the factors associated with increased mortality in hospitalized patients admitted with diagnosis of influenza, at a tertiary care center in Pakistan. This study included all adult patients with an influenza infection, confirmed by realtime reverse-transcriptase polymerase-chain-reaction (RT-PCR) at Aga Khan University Hospital Pakistan. Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) has developed a global health strategy to eliminate viral hepatitis. We project the treatment and prevention requirements to achieve the WHO HCV elimination target of reducing HCV incidence by 80% and HCV-related mortality by 65% by 2030 in Pakistan, which has the second largest HCV burden worldwide.

Mortality In Patients With Respiratory And Nonrespiratory Carbapenem Resistant-Multidrug Resistant Acinetobacter Infections, Nosheen Nasir, S Mahmood

Background: Mortality from carbapenem-multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter infections may vary according to site of infection. The objective of this study was to compare mortality in respiratory vs. non-respiratory infection with Carbapenem-Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (C-MRAB).

Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study to compare mortality rate in patients with respiratory vs. nonrespiratory infection (n=30 each).

Results: Results showed that mortality was 40% in the respiratory group compared to 23% in non-respiratory group; the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.165, RR=1.71, CI=0.73-3.75). Objective: To evaluate the clinical characteristics and predictors of in-hospital mortality in patients with infective endocarditis at a tertiary care centre in Pakistan.
Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, from January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2006, and comprised 84 consecutive patients hospitalised with infective endocarditis,. All patients underwent verification of the diagnosis according to the Modified Duke criterion. Data was collected through a questionnaire and analysed using Student's t test, Chi square and Fisher's exact test.
