Staff Perspectives Of Deaf And Hard Of Hearing College Students’ Alcohol Use, Christine L. Gannon, Theresa H. Gibble, Retta Evans
Staff Perspectives Of Deaf And Hard Of Hearing College Students’ Alcohol Use, Christine L. Gannon, Theresa H. Gibble, Retta Evans
Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences
A predominant health issue at colleges and universities is alcohol use. This is also true for deaf and hard of hearing college students. Key stakeholders who observe and witness this alcohol dynamic are staff. Researchers used a semi-structured qualitative guide to interview Gallaudet University staff (N = 26) to learn about their perspectives on and experiences with student alcohol use. Through thematic analysis, they identified several dominant themes that were then grouped into the three levels of the social-ecological model. First, they identified intrapersonal factors, including fear of missing out and coping strategies. Second, they identified interpersonal factors such …

A Needs Assessment Of Extension Staff To Implement Inclusive Programming For Adults With Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, E. Andrew Pitchford, Christine Hradek, Jody Gatewood, Debra M. Sellers
The Journal of Extension
This study is a needs assessment of Extension staff in the state of Iowa to implement inclusive programming for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Electronic surveys were completed by Extension staff on their attitudes and beliefs toward people with IDD, inclusive programming, and training needs. Results showed that Extension staff had positive views, but that staff reporting personal experience with people with IDD had more positive attitudes and beliefs (p
Improving Healthcare Provider Knowledge And Confidence With Treating The Lgbtq Population Through A Web-Based Education Module, Logan Price
DNP Projects
Background: There is a need for improved healthcare staff and provider knowledge and confidence when treating the LGBTQ population, as many healthcare providers are insufficiently prepared to treat LGBTQ patients (Rowe et al., 2017). This population is at greater risk for mental illness, substance use, and physical illness than the general population due to societal factors such as minority stress and stigma (Cochran et al., 2004; Cochran & Mays 2007; Cochran et al., 2003; Meyer, 2003). Purpose: The purpose of this project is to educate healthcare staff and providers about the LGBTQ population to improve their knowledge and confidence when …

Improved Data Communication With Frontline Staff, David Sprecher
Improved Data Communication With Frontline Staff, David Sprecher
Master's Projects and Capstones
Problem: Frequently, communication from the Quality Department (QD) needs to be filtered through several organizational layers without first-hand knowledge of what message was given to frontline staff. Current mechanisms of communication between the QD and front-line microsystem teams have barriers preventing them from being consistent and reliable.
Context: Research has found that collaborating with and supporting frontline staff was key to establishing a culture that supports change and a focus on safety. Establishing open communication and effective teamwork with individuals on the frontline leads to shared values within a team and better collaboration which drives performance improvement.
Interventions: For trended …

Pharmacological Management Of The Diabetic Patient: A Staff Education Project, Wilantha Silva
Pharmacological Management Of The Diabetic Patient: A Staff Education Project, Wilantha Silva
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Poorly controlled diabetes can lead to health complications that impact quality of life, increase healthcare costs, and create a negative impact on communities. Pharmacological management of diabetes was identified by stakeholders as a gap in practice at a clinic in the southeastern United States. The purpose of this project was to develop staff education based on American Diabetes Association (ADA) and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) standards of care, deliver education to primary care nurse practitioners (NPs), and evaluate their learning and confidence levels. The primary framework for this project was the chronic care model. An expert panel, including …
Educating Staff To Reduce Hospitalization Of Individuals Living In A Group Home, Caroline Aina Ibijemilusi
Educating Staff To Reduce Hospitalization Of Individuals Living In A Group Home, Caroline Aina Ibijemilusi
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractPersons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have significant health disparity in terms of high numbers of hospitalizations compared to the general population. The purpose of the project was to improve staff ability to recognize and respond to the changes in the health status of intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals living in a group home. The project utilized Knowles’s theory of adult learning to develop a curriculum suitable for adult learners and the Kirkpatrick model to guide the assessment of the training. Pre- and post-perception of learning and satisfaction surveys were provided to the participants online. A paired t test …
Perception Of Clinic Staff On Weight Reduction Program For Young Adult Females, Ifeyinwa Cordelia Ibeanu
Perception Of Clinic Staff On Weight Reduction Program For Young Adult Females, Ifeyinwa Cordelia Ibeanu
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Obesity, a common disease among young people in the United States, is defined as aBMI of 30 or more. Among the most prevalent noncommunicable diseases, obesity is reported as a significant public health issue for the general population. The management of younger adults’ obesity requires advanced skills and knowledge to promote healthier lifestyles while directly addressing the factors that contribute to the condition. As a result, this project was designed to evaluate the staff perception of an evidence-based educational program on weight reduction among young adult females (ages 18-25) diagnosed with obesity at outpatient clinic in a Northeastern mid-Atlantic States. …

Measuring The ‘Dose’ Of Person-Centred Care In Aged Care: Development Of Staff And Family Questionnaires, Davina Porock, Junxin Li, Yu-Ping Chang
Measuring The ‘Dose’ Of Person-Centred Care In Aged Care: Development Of Staff And Family Questionnaires, Davina Porock, Junxin Li, Yu-Ping Chang
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Aims:
To develop a theoretically and psychometrically sound instrument to measure the ‘dose’ of person-centred care practice in long-term care.
Background:
Although person-centred care has been adopted for long-term care across the world, there is a lack of theory-based instruments to measure its impact. Two questionnaires were developed to measure person-centred care from the perspectives of staff and family based on current person-centred care frameworks: Kitwood, Nolan, and Eden Alternative.
Methods:
Phase I: literature review and focus groups identified potential items for the questionnaires. Phase II: academic experts, local staff, and family members of residents assessed content validity. Phase III: …

Engaging Patients With Dementia In The Acute Care Setting: A Quality Improvement Initiative For Staff, Andrea Lee
Engaging Patients With Dementia In The Acute Care Setting: A Quality Improvement Initiative For Staff, Andrea Lee
DNP Scholarly Projects
Caring for dementia patients in the acute care setting can be challenging. Staff is trained to manage the acute illness and the symptoms of dementia can impact that care. Training for the care and management of the patient with dementia is not routinely provided for the acute care setting. According to the Alzheimer’s Association (2018), 5.7 million people are living with Alzheimer’s Dementia with the numbers projected to continue to rise. Training in the management of symptoms can alleviate stress and complications for not only the patient but staff members as well. The goal of this project is to educate …

Operations Transformation
It is estimated that 65% of the population are visual learners. With that in mind, a team of cardiac nurses in a large academic tertiary hospital developed a quality improvement project to hopefully improve patient engagement as well the patients’ perception that the nurses explained things in a manner that they could understand.
Baseline patient survey scores for the question, “Nurses Explained Things In A Way That I Understand”, were under the 75thpercentile for a period of 9 months. A root cause analysis was conducted and it demonstrated numerous reasons for this score.
Several countermeasures were instituted to …
