Factors Impacting Nursing Assistants To Accept A Delegation In The Acute Care Settings: A Mixed Method Study, Carol Crevacore, Linda Coventry, Christine Duffield, Elisabeth Jacob
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Aims: To investigate the experience of nursing assistants being delegated nursing tasks by registered nurses. Design: Mixed method explanatory sequential design. Methods: A total of 79 nursing assistants working in an acute hospital in Australia completed surveys that aimed to identify their experience of working with nurses and the activities they were delegated. The survey data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Interviews with 11 nursing assistants were conducted and analysed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis. Results were triangulated to provide a richer understanding of the phenomena. Results: Most nursing assistants felt supported completing delegated care activities. However, there was …

The New Professional: Prioritize Self-Care To Avoid Burnout, Amrita Patel Dds
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
In this inaugural column, “The New Dentist”, Dr. Amrita Patel shares her journey of recognizing and combating burnout in dentistry. She emphasizes the importance of self-care, boundary-setting, delegation, and seeking support. Integrative Review: Factors Impacting Effective Delegation Practices By Registered Nurses To Assistants In Nursing, Carol Crevacore, Elisabeth R. Jacob, Linda L. Coventry, Christine Duffield
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Aim
To identify the evidence on factors that impact delegation practices by Registered Nurses to Assistants in Nursing in acute care hospitals.
Design
An integrative review.
Data Sources
Database searches were conducted between July 2011 and July 2021.
Review Methods
We used the 12-step approach by Kable and colleagues to document the search strategy. The (Whittemore & Knafl. 2005. Journal of Advanced Nursing, 52(5), 546–553) integrative review framework method was adopted and the methodological quality of the studies was assessed using Joanna Briggs critical appraisal instruments.
Results
Nine studies were included. Delegation between the Registered Nurse and the …
Delegation Practices Between The Registered Nurse And The Assistant In Nursing In The Acute Care Setting In Western Australia, Carol Crevacore
Delegation Practices Between The Registered Nurse And The Assistant In Nursing In The Acute Care Setting In Western Australia, Carol Crevacore
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Background:
Delegation is an essential skill that allows the Registered Nurse (RN) to allocate aspects of patient care to other team members including the unregulated Assistant in Nursing (AIN). Concerns have been raised about the activities delegated to AINs in the acute care environment.
Aim:
The aim of this research was to explore the practice of delegation between the RN and the AIN in the acute care environment. This delegation practice was examined through the lens of both the RN and the AIN.
Methodology:
This study used a mixed method explanatory sequential design. The participants were RNs and AINs working …
A Qualitative Case Study On Delegation Of School Nursing Practice: School Nurses, Teachers, And Paraprofessionals Perspectives, Sharon L. Schofield
A Qualitative Case Study On Delegation Of School Nursing Practice: School Nurses, Teachers, And Paraprofessionals Perspectives, Sharon L. Schofield
Theses and Dissertations
For the past decade, there have been many changes to school nursing with the implementation of unlicensed assistant personnel now known as paraprofessionals. This process has brought about several concerns such as mode of delegation, education, training, ability to monitor health-care needs, and organizational effects that trended downward without direction. This qualitative inquiry gave an interpretative meaning to the process of delegation in school nursing, the factors that hinder the delegation process as well as components that are needed to effectively delegate and utilize support staff (paraprofessionals) without detrimental effects to students. This study interviewed 20 participants.

The Role And Impact Of School Nurses And Intentions To Delegate Diabetes-Related Tasks Amidst Budget Cuts And Legislative Changes, Michelle J. Lineberry
Theses and Dissertations--Kinesiology and Health Promotion
As the percentage of school children with chronic conditions such as diabetes continues to rise, funding for school nurses to keep those students healthy and safe is decreasing. This dissertation includes three studies: (1) a systematic review of the literature on the role and impact of American elementary school nurses, (2) a focus group study that further examined the role of Kentucky school nurses and described their reaction to a new regulation that necessitates delegation of diabetes-related nursing tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP), and (3) a quantitative study that examined Kentucky school nurses’ past behaviors and future intentions regarding …
Using Video Simulation To Enhance Rn-Pca Communication, Boris Chang
Using Video Simulation To Enhance Rn-Pca Communication, Boris Chang
Master's Projects and Capstones
The purpose of this project was to develop a video simulation exercise to enhance communication between Registered Nurses (RNs) and Patient Care Assistants (PCAs). From a general microsystem assessment initially performed on an urban hospital medical-surgical unit, 75% of respondents noted that the most pertinent issue to address was improving communication between RNs and PCAs. Literature review of evidence-based practices found several studies that support the use of human clinical simulation to promote teamwork and interdisciplinary communication. RNs (n = 24) and PCAs (n = 9) were then individually interviewed with surveys and responses scored based on the …
