Purpose: This study compared stress and eating behaviors pre- and post-COVID-19 pandemic in college students. METHODS: This was a non-experimental comparative study. Participants were invited to the laboratory for a single visit to measure eating behaviors and stress indicators. Four instruments were used in this study: The Weight and Lifestyle Inventory questionnaire, the Mindfulness Eating Questionnaire, the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire, and the Perceived Stress Scale. Independent t-test and a two-way ANOVA were used to compare participants who were tested before the COVID-19 pandemic declaration and after. Wearable technology is beneficial when it comes to tracking and optimizing performance. The Stryd 27 is a wearable footpod marketed as being more responsive in measuring power during running than the previous version (Stryd 25). However, the reliability of this newer device to return consistent values has not been determined. The loss of muscle mass and function (sarcopenia) afflicts 11-74% of all aging adults, with prevalence increasing with age. Exercise training is clearly effective in preventing or attenuating sarcopenia. The cellular mechanisms of exercise’s protective effects are not entirely clear, but AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is thought to play an important role, in part by regulating gene expression. PURPOSE: To determine the effect of chronic pharmacological AMPK activation on skeletal muscle gene expression in sarcopenic muscle. Low energy availability (LEA) is the underlying factor for Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport which includes a facet of bone health. Stress fractures (SF) are common injuries among runners. The prevalence of coexisting LEA and multiple SF in recreational runners is unknown. Previous research suggests that late sleep restriction (SR) paired with exercise in the morning does not have a significant impact on sport performance measures. However, this evidence is based on research conducted primarily in males. Researchers interested in outdoor free play (i.e., recess) may collect data on total (light-to-vigorous) physical activity (TPA) during a single recess period or over several days, yet little is known about intra- and inter-day variability or whether individual recess periods or days are representative of “typical” recess TPA. This study examines the potential asymmetry in flexor neck muscle characteristics, including thickness, size, strength, and neck flexion range of motion (ROM), in baseball players. Baseball involves repetitive unilateral actions, which may subject players to one-sided stress and strain due to the sport's explosive and high-speed movements. Percussive massage (PM) is an emerging recovery treatment, but the research on its effects post-eccentric exercise (post-EE) is limited. PURPOSE: To investigate the effects of PM on maximal isometric torque (MIT), range of motion (ROM), and an 11-point numerical rating scale (NRS) of soreness from 24-72 h post-EE. METHODS: Seventeen untrained, college-aged subjects (14 women and 3 men) performed 60 eccentric elbow flexion actions with their nondominant arms. Winter Warfare Training (WWT) is a critical component of military training to prepare individuals to move effectively in harsh conditions. Moving through snow and heavy terrain increases overall stress to the entire human system. Osteopenia and osteoporosis are a major public health issue in the United States, and current research suggests that moderate to high intensity resistance training is the most effective type of exercise for maintaining bone mineral density (BMD). Sclerostin is a protein secreted by osteocytes which potently inhibits bone formation by binding to the LRP4 in Wnt/β-catenin signaling. During the COVID-19 pandemic, breast cancer patient in-person visits were converted to telehealth visits. Given our concerns about increased isolation amongst breast cancer patients during the pandemic, and the deleterious effects of such isolation on patient outcomes, we investigated utilization rates of psycho-social services amongst newly diagnosed breast cancer patients at our institution. We explored visit platforms (telehealth versus in-person) and time points prior to and encompassing the early pandemic. Despite decreased new breast cancer visits, there was a greater than 2-fold increase in supportive oncology service encounters in breast cancer patients during COVID-19 suggesting increased need for psycho-oncology resources. …

Patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) are critical to evaluating the person-centeredness, safety, and quality of healthcare services internationally. The aim of this study was to describe the initial psychometric evaluation of a new Emergency Department (ED) PREM. Adult patients presenting to the ED of a tertiary hospital in southeast Queensland, Australia during January 2022 were recruited in-person. Participants selected their preferred ED PREM mode of administration from online, telephone, or postal, and had 14 days from recruitment to complete the survey. Hospital administrators and researchers often use large, standardized surveys that examine patient satisfaction to evaluate whether interventions improve patient experience. To summarize the breadth of these interventions and how large, standardized surveys are used to evaluate them, a multidisciplinary research team conducted a review. They used PubMed and Google Scholar searches, reviews of reference lists and targeted searches to locate studies. They evaluated one hundred and twenty-four articles and fifty-eight articles met the inclusion criteria for the narrative review. Patient experience, an essential indicator of quality patient care, is of increasing importance to hospitals that want to improve and maintain strong patient experience metrics to remain competitive in the business of healthcare. The aim of this study was to clarify the concept of the patient experience by identifying its existing definitions, methods of measurement, and underlying themes and attributes, to differentiate it from similar concepts and propose an operational and theoretical definition to guide valid and reliable development of future assessment tools. Previous experimental data demonstrated ossified particles (OSP, i.e., bone-like particles) in the circulation of rodents as well as human subjects. Their ability to circulate could ultimately permit access to vital tissues, potentially leading to ectopic bone formation. Although the fate of OSP is yet unclear, their entry into soft tissues and organs may initiate pathological processes. PURPOSE: We sought to determine the presence of bone in the soft organs.
