Consideration Of Executive Functioning For Physiotherapy Rehabilitation: Studies Of Physiotherapists’ Knowledge, Normative Data, And A Practice Application, Nicole A. Guitar

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Executive functioning (EF) refers to cognitive abilities involved in decision-making and self-regulation and can be impaired in many patients referred for physiotherapy, including older adults and people living with chronic pain. This dissertation aimed to determine what physiotherapists understood about EF, to summarize normative data for application in physiotherapy practice, and to provide an assessment of feasibility for studying EF impairments in people living with chronic pain. Study one surveyed what physiotherapists understood about EF as a concept, what EF assessments they used, and if this was influenced by their primary area of practice. Respondents (N = 262) subjectively reported …

A Systematic Review To Examine Functional Recovery After Total Knee Arthroplasty And Successful Physical Therapy Protocols, Dominique M. Patterson, Colin F.K. Hansen, Yuri Yoshida

Western Journal of Orthopaedics

Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) continues to be the most common elective procedure performed every year, with the goal to reduce pain and improve return to functional activities. Recent studies have investigated new surgical techniques and therapeutic interventions to determine which protocols result in reduced pain and accelerate return to function. Methods: We systematically reviewed 131 out of 301 studies between 1996 and 2019 to assess trends in patient functional performance and perceptive functional recovery after TKA from preoperative up to 2 years postoperative. We evaluated functional outcome measures recommended by the Osteoarthritis Research Society International. Results that considerably deviated …

Benefits Of Using An Electronic-Medical-Record In The Emergency Department: A Systematic Review, Eduardo Paguntalan Monroy

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractLow quality of care is a problem for many United States (U.S.) emergency departments (E.D.). The use of electronic medical records (EMR) with quick embedded tools, treatment plans, and protocols decrease E.D. overcrowding, reduce boarding time, to approximate the 4- hour recommendation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and improve quality of care. The project question asked whether a systematic review of EMRs with quick embedded tools, treatment plans, and protocols decreased overcrowding and boarding time, and improved E.D. quality care. This systematic review used the Johns Hopkins Model to answer the project question by guiding selection, …
