Much attention is focused on the social determinants of health. Family medicine is challenged with a growing number of vulnerable persons with psychosocial or lifestyle related problems. The objective of this work was to explore how vulnerable younger adults experience person-centered preventive health consultations with their general practitioner. The design and setting for this work were a secondary qualitative analysis of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) in Danish general practices. As new graduate nurses are challenged with caring for patients with complex disease processes, nurse residency programs are designed to ease the transition into practice. A community based hospital, in the southern United States has recently implemented such a program. However, the organization continues to have problems with nursing turnover. This problem is especially evident in nurses with less than one year of clinical experience. Evidence has shown that Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist’s (SRNAs) stress is perceived as above average and is correlated with substandard patient care during clinical courses (Chipas et al., 2012). Some studies have indicated SRNAs experience low self-efficacy during clinical, which could lead to difficulty in thinking clearly or responding to clinical situations (Imus, Burns, & Weglarz, 2017). Background: Medication errors continue to be a significant issue within both academic and clinical settings, posing substantial threats to the safety and well-being of patients. Through Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy, nursing students’ self-efficacy (confidence) and preparedness related to medication administration were examined to investigate their influence on the generation of medication errors in clinical simulation.

The use of simulation-based activities is a growing trend in nursing pedagogy and requires evaluation to assess and improve outcomes. This project completed a review of multiple research studies and reviews to evaluate the effects of simulation and simulation methods on students’ sense of self-efficacy and confidence. The findings support the use of simulation and found that simulation does increase students’ perception of confidence and self-efficacy. The data collected included both qualitative and quantitative data. A few studies lacked generalizability due to small sample size and scenario selection. The purpose of this mixed methods study was to examine relationships between sonography students’ levels of self-regulation and self-efficacy and their performance in a 16-week introductory vascular sonography skills laboratory course. Measures for the study were designed to yield qualitative and quantitative data related to student goals, strategies, and course performance, and were generated by both students and faculty. In the hospital setting, prevention of failure-to-rescue (FTR) events is an important aspect of patient safety. The use of patient simulation as a strategy to educate nurses on the prevention of these events offers two modes of learning: 1) experiential learning through simulation and 2) reflection through debriefing. Purpose To assess radiography faculty perceptions of the effectiveness of online courses.

Methods An original survey instrument was created by selecting items from 3 instruments used in prior research and adding unique questions designed to elicit demographic data from faculty. The sample included a national dataset of radiography faculty members employed in Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology–accredited programs in the United States.

Results Findings showed that faculty perceptions of online course effectiveness are not affected significantly by faculty position, type of institution, faculty age, or years of teaching experience. Positive perceptions of the effectiveness of online courses …

Study Objective—To assess the effects of the Seventeen Days interactive video on young women’s perceived self-efficacy for using condoms 6 months after being offered the intervention, relative to a control. Design—Multisite randomized controlled trial. Setting—Twenty participating health clinics and county health departments in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Participants—Sexually active female adolescents ages 14 to 19 years. Interventions—Seventeen Days (treatment intervention; sex education) vs Driving Skills for Life (control intervention; driving education). Main Outcome Measures—Perceived self-efficacy for condom use. Background. Approximately 35% of men in the United States are obese, though little theoretical work examining predictors correlates of obesity exists for this population. The purpose of this study was to test the capacity of Bandura’s social cognitive model of health behavior to account for variance in fruit and vegetable consumption, moderate physical activity, and sleep behavior in overweight and obese men. These human induced and naturally occurring events have affected over 4.6 billion people, and are not discriminatory to region or community (World Health Organization, 2011). Text Message Intervention For Latino Adults To Improve Diabetes Outcomes In An Urban Free Clinic Setting, Sharon R. Allen

Introduction: This text message intervention sought to help patients at a free clinic in the Southeastern U.S. that have uncontrolled diabetes (DM) (A1C > or = 7) improve their DM clinical and behavioral outcomes, and thereby help them to live healthier, more hopeful and productive lives as they deal daily with this chronic illness. Eight weeks of educational text messages were sent to help improve DM care and outcomes. Method: Free clinic patient Latino adults with DM (n=25) pre-post one group design. Results: Statistically significant results (p < .05) were seen in three (SKILLD, p=.001, DSES, p = .000, and SDSCA, p = .042) of the four tools/surveys administered. A1C improvements were significant from the pre-intervention (M = 9.10, SD = 1.51) and the trended post-intervention values/results (M=8.26, SD = 1.29, t [21] = 2.79, p = .0110). Discussion: Does personalized communication, education and follow up for patients at the free clinic improve diabetes knowledge, self-efficacy and self-care? This text message intervention shows great promise to improve outcomes for diabetes self-management.

Evidence suggests resilience promotes successful aging in place and protective factors promote resilience. This study sought to investigate whether or not the combination of three protective factors, physical health, social support, and self-efficacy are all of equal importance in predicting resilience among Marin County older adults, or if some individual protective factors have a greater impact on resilience than the others. Fifty-eight participants ages 62 and higher were recruited from senior community programs and personal contacts. Effective reading interventions for students with specific learning disabilities (SLD) are needed. A multiprobe multiple baseline across participants design was used to evaluate the effects of a video self-modeling intervention (VSM) on reading fluency skills. The VSM interventions effects on self-efficacy were also measured. Four male middle school students with SLD watched a pre-recorded video of themselves reading a passage fluently and were then asked to read another passage. Words correct per minute (WCPM) and accuracy data were taken. Foster care adolescents have a more difficult time transitioning to adulthood, compared to non-foster care peers, due to the maltreatment and uprooting they often experience prior to entering the foster care system. Although foster care protects children from harmful environments, literature supports that multiple placement changes and lack of stable family and social support contributes to higher likelihood of housing instability, such as homelessness, and mental health problems, including stress, anxiety, and depression, in adulthood. Background: There may be a lack of self-efficacy or confidence in some nurses in the use of evidence-based practice (EBP) especially in a new hospital with nurses who are early in their careers. The aim of this study was to measure self-efficacy and outcomes expectations of nurses in the area of EBP in a new non-replacement hospital on the Magnet® designation journey.

To describe an interprofessional communication course in an academic health sciences center and to evaluate and compare interpersonal and interprofessional communication self-efficacy beliefs of medical, nursing, and pharmacy students before and after course participation, using Bandura’s self-efficacy theory as a guiding framework. Objectives: To determine if the Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS) physical function, pain interference, self-efficacy, and global rating of normal function (GRNF) scales are able to accurately characterize a patient’s acceptable symptom state (PASS).

Design: A cross-sectional analysis, using receiver operator curves and chi-square analysis to explore criteria to determine thresholds (80% and 95% sensitivity/specificity) for PASS that are applicable to PROMIS and GRNF scales.

Morbidity and mortality occur at higher rates in those with serious mental illness (SMI) than those without SMI. These higher rates are worsening in degree, despite known preventative strategies, such as physical health risk screening (HRS). This study evaluates the relationship of physical HRS with self-efficacy for health prevention behaviors, perception of level of risk of health consequences, and intention to follow up with medical care for identified health risks. Understanding safety factors in construction is critical to reducing accident frequency and severity. Grounded in the safety performance model, this study was conducted to examine the impact of psychological capital (PsyCap), which consists of the shared variance of hope, efficacy, resilience and optimism, and Past, Present, and Future thinking perspectives, on safety climate and performance. The prevalence of food allergies is a growing concern in the United States. Approximately 8% of the pediatric population has some form of food allergy. Many of these children are either in the preschool and primary school setting, which is where the majority of allergic reactions occur.
