Patients are now recognized as key partners to improve healthcare outcomes. Some organisations such as the WHO or the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) encourage considering patients as partners in the interprofessional healthcare team. However, limited knowledge exists on patients’ perspective of interprofessional collaboration (IPC) and of their role in the collaborative process, particularly in pediatric settings. The experiences and perspectives of patients regarding IPC have to be considered in order to fully understand the concept of IPC and integrate it into practice. This qualitative study aimed at gaining a better understanding of the perspective of children of IPC, how …

Photo-elicitation interviewing (PEI) seems a valuable tool for engaging marginalized populations in research despite documented challenges. Given limited data on acceptability of PEI among homeless and marginally housed Veterans, this evaluation aimed to characterize their research experience. Veterans took photographs about health, health behaviors, and health care which facilitated semi-structured interviews. Their research study experience was assessed via a modified Reactions to Research Participation Questionnaire-Revised (RRPQ-R), along with additional survey and open-ended questions. Of the 20 participants who consented and participated, 16 (80%) completed the exit surveys. Most participants (>88%) indicated favorable experiences and limited drawbacks. Respondents disagreed that …

Patient Experience Journal
Patient experience is emerging as a key differentiating factor in patients’ choice of healthcare system. Many healthcare organizations are attempting to improve their patient experience by data-driven, patient-centered initiatives. This involves engaging all staff along all the contact points of a patient’s journey in healthcare. Perhaps, the physicians or care providers are most important link in this chain but also the most challenging to engage in improvement efforts. Most healthcare organizations have some training or workshops to educate providers on communication skills and other tools to enhance patient experience. However, there seems to a paucity of a standardized approach or …

CASE HISTORY: A 31-year-old female triathlete developed R+ hip pain during a training run in preparation for a full Ironman. The athlete experienced an immediate onset of R+ anterior hip pain as she began to increase pace while running intervals. She stopped immediately and was unable to run or walk without R+ hip pain. The patient was referred to physical therapy. PHYSICAL EXAM: Initial examination in the outpatient physical therapy clinic revealed hip AROM within normal limits and PROM of the R+ limited in both flexion and internal rotation. Resisted strength testing revealed weakness and pain of R+ …

Effects Of Acute Low-Intensity Cycling On Perceived Stress, Arousal, And Attention, Alyssa G. Vigil, David J. Cleveland, Megan E. Ruhland, Ryan L. Olson
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
Generally, acute bouts of aerobic exercise have been shown to enhance psychological measures of emotion, mood, and affect. Previous investigations suggest that perceived stress and arousal levels are especially influenced by exercise. Interestingly, very few studies have examined the influence of exercise on attention and whether changes in stress and arousal may augment adaptations in attentional orientation that are often required during exercise. Furthermore, very little is known about the timing of the effects of exercise on these psychological outcomes. PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this study was to examine the effects of low-intensity aerobic exercise on stress, arousal, and …
