Behavioral Science Faculty Publications
Background—Hepatitis C virus (HCV) remains a major contributor to morbidity and mortality worldwide. Since 2009, Kentucky has led the United States in cases of acute HCV, driven largely by injection drug use in rural areas. Improved treatment regimens hold promise of mitigating the impact and transmission of HCV, but numerous barriers obstruct people who inject drugs (PWID) from receiving care, particularly in medically underserved settings.
Methods—503 rural people who use drugs were recruited using respondent-driven sampling and received HCV screening and post-test counseling. Presence of HCV antibodies was assessed using enzyme immunoassay of dried blood samples. Sociodemographic and …

Menoufia Medical Journal
Genetic counseling is defined as a process of communication and education, which addresses concerns relating to the development and/or transmission of a hereditary disorder. Despite the proven utility of genetic counseling in improving the clinical outcome and quality-of-life of people, its overall contribution in the health sector has remained far from expected. Recognizing the scope of genetic counseling, the need of the hour is to deliver easily accessible and quality-assured genetic counseling services to the entire population. In conclusion, global expansion of genetic counseling services is the need of the hour, to have a significant impact on the patient-related clinical …

An Exploration Of The Experience Of Open Awareness Co-Meditation At The Beginning Of Therapy Sessions, Aneeqa Ishtiaq
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Mindfulness and meditation have been seen as beneficial for mental health and mindfulness-based therapies have proliferated alongside an increase in popular interest in mindfulness (Germer, Siegel, & Fulton, 2013). However, many therapists are unaware of how to add mindfulness-based interventions. It may seem especially ambiguous for therapists and clients unfamiliar with the concept. In this dissertation, the history and current research on mindfulness-based psychotherapy, and its benefits and contraindications, are reviewed, and the researcher’s relationship to the topic is explained. It is identified that one way to add mindfulness to psychotherapy is for the therapist and the client to co-meditate …
