To compare health related quality of life (HRQOL) in hepatitis B virus (HBV) carriers versus chronic HBV disease carriers versus the normal population. Materials and methods: The study sample consisted of 2 groups. HBV carriers were recruited from individuals who were regularly followed-up at the Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology outpatient clinic of our setting due to inactivity in HBV infection. The control group was recruited from the same outpatient clinic among patients who had a diagnosis of chronic HBV infection and who were not undergoing active treatment yet. To examine the short tandem repeat (STR) data of Bolu population and compare the data with previously published population studies and with the data of a neighboring province, Düzce (a former district of Bolu), which became a province after the earthquake in 1999. Materials and methods: Blood samples were taken from 175 unrelated individuals. DNA was isolated using a DNA Kit and the amplification was performed using an AmpFlSTR Identifier kit. To determine the mean total LDL and HDL cholesterol values and trigliseride levels as well as dyslipidemia and the factors that influence the parameters mentioned above in the population living in the province of Tokat located in the Middle Black Sea (Northeastern) region of Turkey. To investigate the characteristics of Salmonella serotype Typhi and Salmonella serotype Paratyphi B, which still remain significant in Turkey. Materials and methods: Eighteen S. Typhi and 42 S. Paratyphi B strains isolated from clinical samples were investigated by plasmid profile analysis, enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-polymerase chain reaction (ERIC-PCR), and pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) methods. Results: Plasmid profile analysis showed that 10 out of 18 (56%) S. Typhi isolates harbored 1 to 3 plasmids, and 11 out of 42 (26.2%) S. Paratyphi B isolates harbored 1 to 4 plasmids.
