Growth And Mortality Of Mussels ( Mytilus Edulisl.) Reared Inlantern Nets In Loch Kishorn, Scotland, Sedat Karayücel, Ismi̇han Karayücel

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

One-year old rope grown mussels ( Mytilus edulis L.) were held in experimental lantern nets at 2 m and 6 m depths in Loch Kishorn on the west coast of Scotland. Growth, mortality and shell morphology were monitored from May 1993 to August 1994. Water temperature, salinity, transparency and food availability were also determined. These showed a clear seasonal cycle, in consequence, growth of mussels was relatively rapid from May to November and very slow during the rest of the year. Depth had a insignificant effect on shell length and tissue growth (P>0.05) due to similar environmental factors. Shell …

Comparison Of Some Production Traits In Malya And Akkaraman Sheep, Nadi̇ Çolakoğlu, Ceyhan Özbeyaz Jan 1999

Comparison Of Some Production Traits In Malya And Akkaraman Sheep, Nadi̇ Çolakoğlu, Ceyhan Özbeyaz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Summary : This research was carried out to compare the fertility traits, greasy fleece weight and wool characteristics in breeding ewes; and the growth and survival rates of lambs in Ankaraman and Malya breeds. The data was obtained for fertility traits from 5581 Malya and 9707 Akkaraman ewes, for growth rates from 100 lambs in each breed, for greasy fleece weights from 100 ewes in each breed and for wool characteristics from 32 Malya and 28 Akkaraman ewes. Fertility traits such as lambing percentage, twinning rate, litter size and number of lambs weaned per hundred ewes lambing between 1992 and …

Growth Performance, Food Intake And Feed Converison Ratios In Rainbow (Onchorynchus Mykiss) And Brook Trout (Salvelinus Fontinalis) Reared As A Single And Mixed Species, İbrahi̇m Okumuş, M. Sali̇h Çeli̇kkale, İlker Zeki̇ Kurtoğlu, Nadi̇r Başçinar

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Growth performances, daily food consumption and feed conversion ratios of rainbow (Onchorynchus mykiss) and brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) reared as single and mixed species were compared. During the experimental period, which lasted for about a growing season (December - June, 217 days), mean % weight increment of single species brook trout group were maximum (from 18.2 to 165.6 g), followed by mixed rainbow (26.8 to 241.6 g) and brook trout (17.0 to 151.8 g), and single species rainbow trout (27.5 to 207.6 g). Rates of increment in biomass were in similar order. Final mean weights of single species brook trout …

A Research On The Growth Rate On The Mullet (Mugil Auratus Risso, 1810) Fingerlings Fed Different Diets In Cages, Gülçi̇n Ağirağaç, Mustafa Kalma

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This research was conducted to determine the effect of different feeds on the growth rate of mullet juveniles (M. auratus R. 1810). Juveniles with a initial mean weight of 14.15 g and 14.71 g were feed a semi-moist diet (%50 trout viscera + %25 soybean meal + %25 high quality wheat bran) and carp pellets for a period of 60 days in marine cages. At the end of the experiment, final average weights were determined as 28.83± 0.6 g and 22.04±0.6 g have been obtained, respectively. The difference between the two harvesting weights was found statistically significant (P
