The national average nurse turnover rate was 18.2% in 2017 (Ackerson & Stiles, 2018). Electronic Health Record (EHR) in-basket results (e.g., lab results, pathology reports, etc.) must be reviewed and acted upon in a timely manner by clinical staff in order to provide safe and effective care to ambulatory patients. Delays in reading results are significant contributors to medical errors. A large backlog of in-basket results that have never been appropriately filed is both a safety concern and a symptom of other clinical workflow issues. The purpose was to examine the effect of a self-care educational intervention on nursing student resilience and thus the potential for compassion fatigue, depersonalization, burnout, depression, and inadequate self-care. A one-group pretest-posttest research design was applied to a convenience sample of 104 nursing students near the end of their last semester in a baccalaureate nursing program. The measurements were demographics, a psychometric resilience scale, program evaluation, and reflection question. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to identify and reduce the level of CF in ED nurses by implementing Real Time Transformative Response© (RTR). Teachers often experience symptoms of stress and burnout due to the chronicity of their occupational demands. These symptoms can negatively impact teachers’ coping abilities and have implications for their physical and psychological health. Research indicates that mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have potential to help alleviate these symptoms of stress and burnout. Increasing numbers of MBIs for teachers have been implemented in the past five to ten years. While prior studies have described mistreatment in an undergraduate medical setting by sex, sexual orientation, and race/ethnicity, no studies have examined the degree of mistreatment and symptoms of burnout experienced by students with multiple marginalized identities with national data.

To describe the association between mistreatment, burnout, and having multiple marginalized identities during undergraduate medical education.

Maslach and Leiter determined burnout to be caused by three major components: exhaustion, cynicism, and inefficiency. This literature review focuses on factors that directly contribute to new graduate nurse burnout. Major factors discussed in this paper are differences in expectations versus reality, influences from past education, developing professional identity, and the effect of the workplace environment on new graduate transition. The facets of personality detailed in the Factor Five Model served as the independent variables, with burnout as the dependent variable.
