The importance of childhood and adolescent fitness has shifted over time. In the US, physical fitness test batteries first started to emerge during times of war to assess military preparedness. However, as conscription became less necessary and the US turned to issues at home, these fitness assessments became more focused on health over performance.14 This leads to the question, how is fitness tied to overall health? With this literature review, I examine the relationships between childhood fitness and metabolic syndrome, a group of factors that together raise the risk of heart disease, diabetes, or stroke.

Healthy People has projected depression to be the primary cause of disability by 2020; therefore routine depression screening has been prioritized as a national healthcare initiative. The purpose of this Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) project is to demonstrate that routine implementation of the 2-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2) depression screener, along with a scheduled follow-up protocol for adults in the primary care setting, can improve current mental health practices regarding the identification of depression by clinicians. PURPOSE: Delirium remains a common consequence of critical illness and is known to cause negative patient outcomes during an intensive care unit (ICU) stay. Hence, the purpose of this project is to evaluate the outcomes of patients taking psychiatric medications whose medications are abruptly discontinued upon admission to an ICU. Problem: Limited research is available addressing active leisure participation and how leisure participation affects quality of life (QOL) of individuals following physical disability. Research shows a correlation between adaptive leisure participation and higher rated life satisfaction, community integration, perceived competence, and reduced negative mood states (Chun et. al., 2008; Lundberg et al., 2011a).
