Introduction: Type 1 cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) is defined as acute decompensated heart failure (AHF) leading to secondary acute kidney injury. Few studies have evaluated the reliability of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in assessing outcomes in patients with type 1 CRS. We sought to identify echocardiographic predictors of outcomes (death and rehospitalization) in patients with type 1 CRS. Introduction: Since the start of the pandemic, Mexico was one of the countries with the highest mortality rates from COVID 19. Objective: To determine if type 2 diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, and obesity increase mortality in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who required hospitalization in Mexico. Background: Ventricular septal defect (VSD) repair is a frequently performed cardiac procedure in children, and it is associated with a extremely low likelihood of experiencing post-operative complications. To summarize the research in this area, this article examines the state of these treatments today, diving into clinical subtleties and new trends. Background/aim: The respiratory muscles of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exhibit structural and functional changes that can be evaluated and monitored by ultrasonography. Materials and methods: This single-center, prospective study was conducted in the emergency department (ED) of a tertiary care hospital over an eight-month period (September 2020-May 2021). Introduction. The Global Burden of Disease Study has identified injuries as one of the top ten causes of death and disability worldwide. Injury is predicted to rise in the rankings by the year 2030. This study aimed to quantify the effectiveness of an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) training in improving mortality outcome after trauma injury.

Purpose: We sought to determine if census tract-level (ie, neighborhood) COVID-19 death rates in Milwaukee County correlated with the census tract-level condition prevalence rates (CPRs) for individual COVID-19 mortality risk.

Objective To assess the role of pancreatic stone protein (PSP) in evaluation of critically ill children admitted to a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Background PSP was suggested to be a promising biomarker for determining critical illness severity among pediatric children. Patients and methods This prospective observational study was conducted on 75 critically ill children and 15 healthy controls. Serum PSP was measured in patients within 24 h of PICU admission and on healthy controls with commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. Results Serum level of PSP was significantly elevated among patients than controls (P < 0.001). The most common cause of PICU admission was respiratory illness (44%). Since late-2020, COVID-19 mortality rates have been higher in rural than in urban America, but there has also been substantial within-rural heterogeneity. Using CDC data, we compare COVID-19 mortality rates across the rural-urban continuum as well as within rural counties across different types of labor markets and by metropolitan adjacency. As of October 1, 2021, the cumulative COVID-19 mortality rate was 247.0 per 100,000 population in rural counties compared to 200.7 in urban counties.
