Psychological Respect For Patients With Breast Cancer Using Radial Incision Which Gives Better Cosmetic Outcome After Conservative Breast Surgery, Adel K. Barsoum, Hytham R. Yassin

Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research

Background Breast cancer is considered as one of the most common cancers affecting women, and remains one of the world's biggest killers. Once diagnosed as a breast cancer patient, a woman can be exposed to psychological trauma that is manifested as stress, anxiety, and even depression. Since surgery is the most important part of breast cancer management protocol, the first time a woman looks to her body after surgery can be harmful. Despite this gloomy picture, there have been some dramatic modifications recently in the treatment of breast cancer, especially in early detected tumors. One of them is the clear …

Objective To assess the frequency of breast cancer (BC) among families of diagnosed cases and to determine BC risk factors among the screened relatives. Background BC is the most common malignancy among women. The family history of BC increases the risk of the disease. Screening with mammography reduces BC mortality. Patients and methods The study included 150 women from first-degree and second-degree relatives of diagnosed BC cases attending Oncology Outpatient Clinics, Menoufia University Hospital, during the period from January 2016 to February 2017. The participated relatives were subjected to history taking and clinical breast examination. Sonomammography was done for those …

A Surprising Incidence Of Mammary Duct Ectasia In Egyptian Female Individuals: A 20-Year Experience, Adel K. Barsoum Aug 2018

A Surprising Incidence Of Mammary Duct Ectasia In Egyptian Female Individuals: A 20-Year Experience, Adel K. Barsoum

Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research

The vast majority of breast pathology is benign. Much attention is given to malignant lesions because breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women. Duct ectasia is one of the benign breast diseases; Haagenson was the first to use the term. It is a widening of the ducts of the breast, a condition that occurs most frequently in women in their fourth and fifth decade of life. American Cancer Society states that mammary duct ectasia does not increase the risk for developing breast cancer, as duct ectasia is considered a nonproliferative disease (cells that have changed but are not …

Androgen Receptor Expression In Estrogen Receptor-Negative Breast Cancer, Belal M. Meligy, Eman A. Tawfik, Enas A. El Khouly, Hagar Alagizy, Mohamed A. Shehata, Noha M. Elkady Jun 2018

Androgen Receptor Expression In Estrogen Receptor-Negative Breast Cancer, Belal M. Meligy, Eman A. Tawfik, Enas A. El Khouly, Hagar Alagizy, Mohamed A. Shehata, Noha M. Elkady

Menoufia Medical Journal

Objective The aim of this study was to estimate the expression of androgen receptors (ARs) in patients with estrogen receptor (ER)-negative breast cancer. Background Growth of breast cancer is hormone dependent. Estrogen and progesterone play a fundamental role in the pathogenesis and treatment of patients with ER-positive breast cancer and those with progesterone receptor-positive breast cancer. Patients who lack the expression of these receptors receive no benefit from hormonal treatment and are considered to have a poor prognosis. AR is a member of nuclear steroid receptors with ambiguous role in patients with breast cancer. There is growing evidence about its …

Cell-Free Dna As A Biomarker Of Breast Cancer, Ahmed S. El Gamaal, Hala H. El Said, Marwa M. M. Omar, Rasha I. Noreldin, Rawheyia H. El Edel

Menoufia Medical Journal

Background Circulating plasma cell-free DNA (CFDNA) is comprised of nucleic acids in fringe blood of healthy persons and patients with several diseases that start from cell death. Apoptotic tumor cells may discharge DNA into the peripheral blood, and this may hold possibilities for the early detection of breast cancer. Objective This study aimed to assess CFDNA (glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase) concentration in patients with malignant and benign breast lesions and healthy controls to investigate its role as a noninvasive marker for early detection of breast cancer. Patients and methods This study included 50 patients divided into three groups: group I included …

Predictive Significance Of Stromal-Associated Lymphocytes In Response To Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy In Breast Cancer, Abeer H. Anter, Afaf T. Ibrahiem, Hala A. Mouhamed

Menoufia Medical Journal

Objective In this work, we aimed to assess whether the high stromal-associated lymphocytes and their subtypes in pretreatment core biopsies from patients with invasive breast carcinoma have a predictive role in pathologic response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). Background Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes including stromal-associated lymphocytes in breast cancer are considered a form of the host immune response to malignancy. Several studies suggested that tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes could predict better response to NACT, but their roles in predicting complete pathologic response (pCR) rate after NACT still needs further evaluation. Patients and methods Stromal-associated lymphocytes were evaluated in 100 pretreatment core biopsies from primary breast …

Calidad De Vida: An Exploratory Investigation Of Latino Breast Cancer Survivors And Intimate Partners, Sejal Barden, Daniel Gutierrez, Jessica Gonzalez, Shainna Ali

Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice

Advances in addressing psychosocial issues related to cancer treatment and prevention are not reaching all survivors equally. Latina breast cancer survivors and intimate partners are underrepresented in psychosocial interventions, and there is a scarcity of research on the influence of cancer on Latino couples’ quality of life. The purpose of this manuscript is to present findings from a trans-linguistic, dyadic qualitative research study aimed at exploring the influence of cancer on quality of life for Latina breast cancer survivors and their intimate partners. Results highlight several areas that are helpful and hindering to supporting survivorship.

Understanding Older Women's Experience Of Being Diagnosed With Breast Cancer, Molly Wilhelm

The Pegasus Review: UCF Undergraduate Research Journal

This study describes the experience of being diagnosed with early stage breast cancer for women age 65 and older. This qualitative study used content analysis to analyze twenty interviews of older women with early stage breast cancer. A variety of positive and negative factors influence the experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer. These factors include: their initial reactions, interactions with their respective medical teams, family support, religion, education, and misinformation. Nurses can use the information from this study to help make diagnosis more positive by educating older women about breast cancer and treatment, encouraging them to develop an optimistic …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The aims of this study were to detect CCND1, C-MYC, and FGFR1 amplification using qPCR, confirmation with FISH, and to further assess their clinicopathological relevance. Materials and methods: Thirty-five breast tumor samples were analyzed for amplification of the selected genes using modified SYBR Green qPCR. The accuracy of the qPCR was assessed by FISH as a gold-standard method. Results: CCND1, C-MYC, and FGFR1 amplifications were observed in 34.28%, 28.57%, and 17.14% of the 35 samples, respectively. qPCR results were significantly confirmed by FISH and qPCR and FISH showed excellent correlation (P = 0.000). CCND1 amplification with tumor stage (P …
