Strategies For Implementation Of Electronic Health Records, Carlene Vassell-Webb
Strategies For Implementation Of Electronic Health Records, Carlene Vassell-Webb
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) is a driver for the improvement of health care and the reduction of health care costs. Developing countries face substantial challenges in adopting EHRs. The complex adaptive system conceptual framework was used to guide this single case study to explore strategies that health care leaders used to successfully implement the EHR system. Data were collected from 6 health care leaders from an island in the Caribbean using a semistructured interview technique. Data were analyzed using the Bengtsson's 4-stage data analysis process, which includes decontextualization, recontextualization, categorization, and compilation. The results of the study yielded …
Reducing Errors With Blood Administration Transfusion Systems, Kim D. Stevens
Reducing Errors With Blood Administration Transfusion Systems, Kim D. Stevens
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The intention of implementing technology into healthcare practices is to reduce opportunity for errors in the delivery of providing health care. However, errors still occur, and many times are preventable. Configurations of health information technology systems should match clinical workflows to promote usage as intended. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the impact of revised system configurations and use of a blood product transfusion system for the administration of blood products after one year of implementation. The method of heuristic evaluation is a usability engineering method for finding problems in a user interface design with the …
Health Portal Functionality And The Use Of Patient-Centered Technology, Anita Joyce Simmons
Health Portal Functionality And The Use Of Patient-Centered Technology, Anita Joyce Simmons
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Health portals are dedicated web pages for medical practices to provide patients access to their electronic health records. The problem identified in this quality improvement project was that the health portal in the urgent care setting had not been available to staff nor patients. To provide leadership with information related to opening the portal, the first purpose of the project was to assess staff and patients' perceived use, ease of use, attitude toward using, and intention to use the portal. The second purpose was to evaluate the portal education materials for the top 5 urgent care diagnoses: diabetes, hypertension, asthma, …
Adoption Of Electronic Health Record Systems Within Primary Care Practices, Marvin Leon Reid, Jr.
Adoption Of Electronic Health Record Systems Within Primary Care Practices, Marvin Leon Reid, Jr.
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Primary care physicians (PCPPs) have been slow to implement electronic health records (EHRs), even though there is a U.S. federal requirement to implement EHRs. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to determine why PCPPs have been slow to adopt electronic health record (EHR) systems despite the potential to increase efficiency and quality of health care. The complex adaptive systems theory (CAS) served as the conceptual framework for this study. Twenty-six PCPPs were interviewed from primary care practices (PCPs) based in southwestern Ohio. The data were collected through a semistructured interview format and analyzed using a modified van Kaam method. …
Health Information Technology Implementation Strategies In Zimbabwe, Nixjoen Mandaza Mapesa
Health Information Technology Implementation Strategies In Zimbabwe, Nixjoen Mandaza Mapesa
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The adoption rate of health information technology (HIT) remains low in developing countries, where healthcare institutions experience high operating costs and loss of revenue, which are related to systems and processes inefficiency. The purpose of this case study was to explore strategies leaders in Zimbabwe used to implement HIT. The conceptual framework of the study was Davis's technology acceptance model (TAM). Data were gathered through observations, review of organizational documents (i.e., policies, procedures, and guidelines), and in-depth interviews with a purposive sample of 10 healthcare leaders and end-users from hospitals in Zimbabwe who had successfully implemented HIT. Transcribed interview data …
