Clinical Practice Guideline On Suicide Prevention Among Adolescents, Beltta Gangwab Tachi Jan 2022

Clinical Practice Guideline On Suicide Prevention Among Adolescents, Beltta Gangwab Tachi

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractIncreasing rates of suicide among adolescents in the United States is an unsettling problem whereby suicide is the second leading cause of mortality among adolescents. Although interventions exist to address this problem, there is a lack of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to assist healthcare providers to identify and prevent adolescent suicide. Guided by the zero-suicide model, the purpose of this project was to develop a CPG to address this gap in practice. A literature review on adolescent suicide prevention resulted in 24 peer-reviewed articles published in the past 5 years that were graded and arranged in a literature matrix. These …

Evidence-Based Practice Guideline: Breastfeeding Support Of The Active Duty Servicewoman, Heidi A. Koslo Jan 2020

Evidence-Based Practice Guideline: Breastfeeding Support Of The Active Duty Servicewoman, Heidi A. Koslo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There is no policy on breastfeeding support of the active duty military servicewoman at the targeted military treatment facility, and no global policy serving active duty personnel applicable at the Department of Defense and Defense Health Agency (DoD/DHA) level to span across branches of the U.S. military. Nurses, as members of the most trusted profession, are often expected to know how to assist a mother in meeting her feeding goals. Creation of an evidence-based practice guideline (EBPG) for support of the active duty servicewoman in the military health system was the purpose of this project. The project was conceptualized within …

Colorectal Cancer Awareness And Screening Guideline For African American Populations, Keyna Omenukor Jan 2018

Colorectal Cancer Awareness And Screening Guideline For African American Populations, Keyna Omenukor

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Colorectal cancer is the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Early screening

provides the best prospects for preventing the morbidity and mortality associated with the

disease. Nurses have the duty to promote health and prevent diseases. However, low rates

of colorectal cancer screening continue to be reported, especially among African

Americans who continue to suffer disproportionately from the disease. There is a need for

a culturally-sensitive clinical practice guideline that nurses can use to educate patients

appropriately on colorectal cancer. The practice focused question for this project was

designed to explore whether a culturally-sensitive clinical practice guideline to increase

colorectal …

Development Of A Guideline For Hospice Staff, Patients, And Families On Appropriate Opioid Use, Trenika Alexander-Goreá Jan 2017

Development Of A Guideline For Hospice Staff, Patients, And Families On Appropriate Opioid Use, Trenika Alexander-Goreá

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There is an identified problem with patients receiving suboptimal pain management at a hospice agency in the northwestern United States. At this agency, undertreatment of pain is prevalent. Evidence indicates that this may be a result of a lack of guidelines, education, and knowledge of appropriate prescribing. Known barriers to the correct prescription and administration of potent opioids in the hospice setting include prevailing beliefs, knowledge, skills, and attitudes, all of which can impact care negatively. Contextually, hospice principles mandate patient comfort and caregiver involvement in continuous quality improvement, which includes adequate and informed pain management. Moreover, hospice metrics demand …

Development Of An Evidence-Based Practice Guideline For Prevention Of Diaper Dermatitis, Nanita Flavier Lim-Sulit Jan 2017

Development Of An Evidence-Based Practice Guideline For Prevention Of Diaper Dermatitis, Nanita Flavier Lim-Sulit

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Diaper dermatitis, an acute inflammatory reaction of the skin, is one of the most common forms of dermatitis among neonatal and pediatric patients. The problem addressed in this quality improvement project was the absence of an evidence-based practice (EBP) guideline for perineal care which resulted in 4 unexpected cases of diaper dermatitis per 100 hospital days at a non free standing children's hospital. Framed within Rosswurm and Larrabee's model for EBP, the purpose of this project was to develop an educational initiative encompassing an EBP guideline for perineal care, an educational curriculum plan for staff members, and a Power Point …

Guideline Use In Asthma Management In Primary Care Setting: A Systematic Review, Nkiru Ezeani Ezeani Jan 2016

Guideline Use In Asthma Management In Primary Care Setting: A Systematic Review, Nkiru Ezeani Ezeani

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease that is characterized by reversible airway obstruction due to hyper-responsiveness of the tracheobronchial tree. The condition disproportionately affects male children, females, and the aged globally, and its prevalence keeps rising despite being a preventable condition in terms of relapse. Most asthmatic patients receive care in primary care settings. Various health agencies have developed asthma management guidelines to improve the quality of asthma care; however, in some cases, adherence to these guidelines is substandard. The overarching aim of this study was to determine whether primary care providers manage asthma in line with the available …

Development Of A Practice Guideline For Dnp Prepared Nurse Practitoners Working In Long-Term Care Facilities, Ashley M. Marshall Jan 2016

Development Of A Practice Guideline For Dnp Prepared Nurse Practitoners Working In Long-Term Care Facilities, Ashley M. Marshall

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Clinical evidence-based practice guidelines providing recommendations for health care decision making have become vital components of long-term health care practice in the United States. Frequently changing guidelines have complicated nurse practitioners' (NPs) efforts to implement evidence-based practice into the daily care that they provide to patients. The purpose of this project was to develop an evidence-based practice guideline for doctoral-prepared NPs working in long-term care facilities. This project is important because practitioners use practice guidelines to provide patients with the most appropriate, evidence-based care. Kolcaba's comfort theory was used to guide this project. Kolcaba's theory holds that comfort exists in …

A Guide For Delivering Evidence - Based Discharge Intructions For Emergency Department Patients, Andre Walker Jan 2015

A Guide For Delivering Evidence - Based Discharge Intructions For Emergency Department Patients, Andre Walker

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Discharge instructions provided to patients discharged from the emergency department (ED) are often provided in a way that is neither clear nor concise. Patients are often discharged home without a clear understanding of their diagnosis, medications, reasons to return to the ED, follow-up instructions, or how to manage their care at home during their illness. Therefore, a guideline needed to be developed in order to help the ED staff provide clear and concise discharge instructions to patients discharged from the ED. The Ace Star Model of Knowledge Transformation was the foundation for the development of the evidence-based guideline. A formative …
