Strategies For Maximizing The Use Of Electronic Health Records Systems In Medical Clinics, Alexandra Nieves Rivera Jan 2023

Strategies For Maximizing The Use Of Electronic Health Records Systems In Medical Clinics, Alexandra Nieves Rivera

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Ineffective leadership can negatively impact the use of electronic health records (EHR) systems in medical clinics. Healthcare managers who fail to maximize the use of EHR systems are missing out on the opportunity to optimize the quality of medical care that their clinic provides. Grounded in complexity leadership theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple-case study was to explore strategies healthcare managers use to maximize the use of EHRs systems. Participants comprised six healthcare managers who successfully implemented strategies to maximize the use of EHRs systems. Data were collected from semistructured interviews and publicly available information. Thematic analysis was used …

The Impact Of Electronic Health Records Meaningful Use On Patient Safety And Satisfaction, Paulette Brown Jan 2022

The Impact Of Electronic Health Records Meaningful Use On Patient Safety And Satisfaction, Paulette Brown

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractThe widespread adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) is encouraged because of their potential to improve the quality of care provided. It was unknown to what extent the meaningful use of EHRs would impact patient safety and satisfaction in general and specialty hospitals. The researcher’s purpose for this quantitative correlational research was to examine the impact of meaningful EHR use of EHRs on patient safety and satisfaction outcomes in general and specialty hospitals in Philadelphia (PA). The constructs of the institutional theory guided the study. The hypotheses that guided the study included (a) Meaningful EHR use positively influences patient satisfaction …

Physicians’ Perceptions Of Facilitators And Barriers In Electronic Health Record Education, Alice Keene Martin Jan 2020

Physicians’ Perceptions Of Facilitators And Barriers In Electronic Health Record Education, Alice Keene Martin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A significant focus in health care is quality documentation to lower patient safety risks. The local problem at a healthcare organization in the northeastern United States is that some physicians are falling short with quality documentation of patient care in athenaNet, a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR). This qualitative case study was conducted to explore physicians' perceptions of the facilitators and barriers that impact the educational process for quality documentation in EHRs. Attention also focused on identifying physicians' recommendations for enhancing the educational process for quality documentation. Knowles’ adult learning theory served as the conceptual framework. Purposeful sampling was used …

A Delphi Study Analysis Of Best Practices For Data Quality And Management In Healthcare Information Systems, Olivia L. Pollard Jan 2019

A Delphi Study Analysis Of Best Practices For Data Quality And Management In Healthcare Information Systems, Olivia L. Pollard

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Healthcare in the US continues to suffer from the poor data quality practices processes that would ensure accuracy of patient health care records and information. A lack of current scholarly research on best practices in data quality and records management has failed to identify potential flaws within the relatively new electronic health records environment that affect not only patient safety but also cost, reimbursements, services, and most importantly, patient safety. The focus of this study was to current best practices using a panel of 25 health care industry data quality experts. The conceptual lens was developed from the International Monetary …

Strategies Rural Hospital Leaders Use To Implement Electronic Health Record, Susan Mejia Jan 2018

Strategies Rural Hospital Leaders Use To Implement Electronic Health Record, Susan Mejia

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued over 144,000 payments totaling $7.1 billion to medical facilities that have adopted and successfully demonstrated meaningful use of certified electronic health record (EHR). Hospital organizations can increase cost savings by using the electronic components of EHRs to improve medical coding and reduce medical errors and transcription costs. Despite the incentives, some rural health care facilities are failing to progress. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore the strategies rural hospital leaders used to implement an EHR. The target population consisted of rural hospital leaders who were involved in the …

Strategies For Applying Electronic Health Records To Achieve Cost Saving Benefits, Daniel Kanyi Ngunyu Jan 2018

Strategies For Applying Electronic Health Records To Achieve Cost Saving Benefits, Daniel Kanyi Ngunyu

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 authorized the distribution of about $30 billion incentive funds to accelerate electronic health record (EHR) applications to improve the quality of care, safety, privacy, care coordination, and patients' involvement in healthcare. EHR use has the potential of saving $731 in costs for hospitals per patient admission; however, most hospitals are not applying EHR to reach the level at which cost savings are possible. The purpose of this single case study was to explore strategies that IT leaders in hospitals can use to apply EHR to achieve the cost saving benefits. The …
