Alzheimer’s disease (AD) currently presents a huge burden to individuals and families, a burden that is increasing in incidence with the aging of the baby boomer generation. Caring for a spouse diagnosed with AD holds potentially severe negative consequences for the caregiver’s physical and psychological well-being. Numerous quantitative studies have assessed caregiver burden in multiple chronic diseases, but an identified gap and underrepresentation exists in the literature regarding studies using an inductive approach that allow informal caregivers to describe the lived experiences of caring for Black men receiving hemodialysis. In 2016, a dramatic shift occurred in demographics in the United States because the oldest people in the baby boomer generation, which consists of people born between 1946 and 1964, reached age 65. The larger aging population and longer lifespans have produced an increased need for care and services.
