Materials and methods: The study groups included 40 unrelated HSP patients and 200 apparently healthy people without any kind of inflammatory diseases as a control group. Molecular screening was performed for eight main mutations, namely M694V, M694I, M680I, V726A, E148Q, R761H, P396S, and R408Q, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), and sequencing. Results: Out of the …

Analysis Of Vaca/Caga Genotypes/Status In Helicobacter Pylori Isolates From Iranian Children And Their Association With Clinical Outcome, Tahereh Falsafi, Afsaneh Khani, Fatemeh Mahjoub, Ezat Asgarani, Nazli Sotoudeh

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

More than 50% of Iranian children are infected with Helicobacter pylori; however, no data exist about the association of vacA/cagA genotype/status with disease outcomes in them. We analyzed association of vacA/cagA genotypes/status of children's isolates with gastric inflammation status as the first step in H. pylori pathogenesis. Materials and methods: Antral biopsies for culture and histopathology were taken from 328 children in 1997-2009. vacA (s, m) alleles and cagA statuses of the isolates were determined by PCR. Histopathology was performed according to the Sydney system; gastritis was scored as normal, mild, moderate, severe, and follicular. Results: A total of 159 …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

So far, few studies have been conducted on Q fever in Iran. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of acute Q fever in febrile patients admitted to Boo-Ali Hospital in Zahedan (southeastern Iran). Materials and methods: In this study, 105 febrile patients suspected of having brucellosis were examined using indirect immunofluorescent assay kit for the detection of Coxiella burnetii IgM and IgG phase antibodies in their serum. Serum with a phase II IgG titer of =>256 and a phase II IgM titer of =>50 was predictive for acute Q fever. Additionally, a 4-fold rise …

Genotype Distribution Of Hepatitis C Virus In Khorasan Razavi Province, Iran, Reza Afshari, Hosein Nomani, Fatemeh Riyahi Zaniani, Maryam Sadat Nabavinia, Zohreh Mirbagheri, Mojtaba Meshkat, Sina Gerayli, Sina Rostami, Zahra Meshkat

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Several types of the hepatitis C virus (HCV), with variations in different parts of the genome, have been isolated from different regions of the world. Based on heterogenic sequences in the isolated genome, HCV is classified into different genotypes and subtypes. Data on distribution of HCV genotypes in a certain region could be important to patient management. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the distribution of HCV in Mashhad, Northeast Iran. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 103 patients with HCV infections in Mashhad. Among the participants, at least 22 (21.4%) were intravenous drug users. HCV …
