Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a choice of treatment for pituitary adenomas (PA), particularly for residual or recurrent disease, apart from surgery. It has a progression free survival and endocrine remission rate comparable to surgery, with fewer side effects, making it an ideal tool for dealing with PA. In this review, we have discussed the role of SRS for primary as well as post-operative residual/ recurrent PA, and have assessed its safety and outcomes.

Pituitary adenomas and Rathke’s cleft cyst with calcification are rarely seen and craniopharyngioma still remains the common sellar suprasellar space occupying lesion with calcification. Presence of calcification is reported in pituitary adenoma in only 0.2% to 8% cases. The pituitary adenoma with calcification is a rare radiological finding and it must be distinguished from other lesions of the pituitary gland as the management and prognosis differs significantly. We report a case of a 29-year-old gentleman presented electively with the complaints of deterioration of vision for four months. Acromegaly is a rare, indolent disease due to overproduction of growth hormone. Surgery is identified as primary treatment, but has its limitation, thus frequently requiring alternate treatment options as adjunct to surgery. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) has been used as adjuvant and alternate therapy in patients with inoperable or residual disease; or those not fit for surgery. It has shown reasonable results for treating macroadenoma and tumours invading cavernous sinuses with significant reduction in tumour size and durable endocrinological remission.
