Objective The aim of this study was to assess the level of mean platelet volume (MPV) in children with acute hepatitis A as compared with the control group. Background MPV is a marker that indicates platelet size, function, and the rate of platelet production and activation. Objective The aim of the paper was to investigate the relationship between serum YKL-40 levels and severity of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Background COPD is a major health problem with increasing morbidity and mortality throughout the world. A newly recognized biomarker, YKL-40, is a chitin-binding glycoprotein, and its serum level is elevated in inflammatory diseases. However, it has not been thoroughly investigated in COPD.
