Immunological Studies On Rheumatoid Arthritis Treated With Homeopathic Drugs: Results Of The Pilot Study, Prakash Rao, M Prasanna

Introduction & Objective: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), a systemic disease, is characterized by a chronic inflammatory reaction in the synovium of joints. The inflammation is mediated by inflammatory cytokines. The objective of the study was to evaluate efficacy of homeopathic drugs and changes in the cytokine profile of rheumatoid arthritis patients treated with homeopathic drugs. Materials and Methods: A total of 35 rheumatoid arthritis patients and 10 healthy controls completed this pilot study. The patients were treated with Rhus tox. (8), Pulsatilla (8) and Medorrhinum (9) according to totality of symptoms. The control group (10) received placebo. The patients were evaluated …

Prunus laurocerasus L., a shrub belonging to family Rosaceae, is a well known drug in homoeopathy. Leaves are used as an antispasmodic, in heart diseases, for relief in nausea and as an ingredient in eye lotions. The leaves are coriaceous, dark green above and pale beneath, shortly petiolate; epidermal cells have distinctly thick, curved to wavy and sinuate sides; hypostomatic with anomocytic and anisocytic types of stomata. The mesophyll and midvein ground tissue possess characteristic sphaeraphidal idioblasts. Typical aerenchyma is present in ground tissue of leaf midvein and petiole. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) and Calendula officinalis 3 CH or a combination of both treatment modalities on wounded human skin fibro-blasts (HSF) in vitro. Background data: LLLT is a form of phototherapy, involving the application of low level monochromatic and coherent light to injuries and lesions to stimulate healing. LLLT has been used to examine the influence of laser radiation on the healing process of wounds. Uterine leiomyomas (fibroids), benign smooth muscle tumours of the human uterus, are one of the common gynaecological problems in women of reproductive age. It is one of the most common indications for hysterectomy in gynaecological branch of medical profession, later leading into a lot of complications. This surgical intervention can be avoided through homoeopathic treatment. A case of uterine fibroid in a forty-year-old female treated with homoeopathy is reported here. Castanea sativa Mill. A tree belonging to the family Fagaceae is a potential drug in Homoeopathy. The leaves are used as tonic, astringent, In paroxysmal coughs and diarrhoea. The leaves are large, lanceotate with deep serrate margins and covered by indumentum on the lower side. The epidermis has cells with thick straight to curved or wavy sides. Stomata are actinocytic or anomocytic. The abaxial side has dense hairy cover consisting of 2-6 armed and stellate hair. In T.S. the ratio of midvein to lamina is 6:1.
