Assessing Knowledge, Confidence, And Attitude Toward Virtual Care And Telehealth Among Graduate Nursing Students, Natasha Asante

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth and virtual healthcare modalities have become primary care delivery methods. The American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AACN) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) support using virtual care and telehealth technology in health care services. Although most healthcare institutions utilize telehealth to provide care, emerging research highlights the lack of telehealth training in Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) education. However, no standard curriculum requirements mandate graduate nursing programs to train APRN students in telehealth or virtual health modalities. Due to the lack of training for APRNs, it can be very challenging for …

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Abstract

Background: In 2021,106,699 people died from a drug overdose and of these deaths, over 75% were related to illicit or prescription opioids (Centers for Disease Control, 2023). At two in-patient community crisis stabilization units for psychiatric care, many patients have a comorbid diagnosis of a substance use disorder and another mental illness. Treatment with Buprenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone) is associated with decreased opioid overdoses and related deaths; however, Suboxone inductions have not been a part of admission treatment.

Methods: This quality improvement (QI) project initiated a Suboxone protocol for eligible patients on two crisis in-patient stabilization units. The outcomes …

Improving Self-Efficacy In Heart Failure Care, Tracy Bennett Mcleod

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Problem Statement: Heart Failure contributes significantly to the morbidity and mortality of the adult population and is one of the leading causes of 30-day readmissions. The cost of heart failure is a substantial healthcare burden. Purpose: The purpose of this project was to determine if implementing the “Rise Above Heart Failure” educational program would improve heart failure knowledge, weight monitoring, and reduced re-admission rates in heart failure patients. Methods: A pre-test and post-test survey named The Dutch Heart Failure Knowledge Scale was utilized. Van der Wal, Jaarsma, Moser, and Van Veldhuisen (2005) developed this questionnaire to evaluate patients' knowledge. The …

Poster: Nursing Knowledge And Attitudes Toward Trans* And Gender-Nonconforming Patients, Christine Humphrey Apr 2018

Poster: Nursing Knowledge And Attitudes Toward Trans* And Gender-Nonconforming Patients, Christine Humphrey

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

This project aims to impact nursing knowledge and attitudes toward trans* and gender-nonconforming patients. The term transgender, synonymous with the term trans*, is utilized by individuals whose gender and designated sex at birth differ from one another, compared to cisgender persons whose gender and assigned sex are aligned (Erickson-Schroth, 2014).

The trans* population remains underserved. Nurses conscious and unconscious biases impede the advancement of knowledge and attitudes needed to promote best outcomes for trans* patients. Trans* patients have many of the same healthcare concerns as cisgender individuals. However, unique needs for this population arise from compounded issues of prejudice and …

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Abstract

Filipino-Americans (FAs) are considered the fastest growing Asian immigrant population in the United States. There are about 2.6 million Filipino-Americans living in the United States (U.S. Census, 2010). Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death among FAs in the United States (National Vital Statistics, 2009). Research studies on CHD and CHD risk factors among FAs are limited. The purpose of the study was to explore FAs’ knowledge of CHD, risk factors for CHD and to provide a personalized educational intervention in raising awareness and changing attitudes about CHD among FAs aged 35-75 in a community setting …
