This thesis paper discusses the concept of rooming in on the maternity unit while pertaining to the QSEN nursing competency of patient centered care. Through an extensive review of the literature, the following question will be addressed: On the post-partum unit, does having the newborn rooming in with his or her mother improve patient-centered care compared to rooming in the nursery? After an introduction of the problem and its significance to patient-centered care, research that was conducted will be reviewed that discusses the importance of rooming in.
