Light And Electron Microscopic Examination Of The Single Kidney Of Unilateral Nephrectomized Rats During Pregnancy, H. Hamdi̇ Çeli̇k, Mustafa F. Sargon

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The light microscopic and ultrastructural changes observed in the single kidney of pregnant rats were detected during mid-term pregnancy and after parturition and the results were compared with those of the pure nephrectomized group. The experimental studies were performed on 24 female virgin rats and all of them were subjected to unilateral nephrectomy. No pathology was observed in the light microscopic examination of the kidneys of the groups. In the transmission electron microscopic examination, in the pure nephrectomized group, cell swellings were present in the endothelial cells of the interlobular arteries and arterioles. Additionally, a mild cell swelling was seen …

Long-Term Administration Of Alcohol In Rats: Effects On Glucagon And Insulin Levels In Sera During Pre-Pregnancy, Pregnancy And Lactation Periods, Bi̇rsen Zeybek, Gülhan Türkmen Jan 2002

Long-Term Administration Of Alcohol In Rats: Effects On Glucagon And Insulin Levels In Sera During Pre-Pregnancy, Pregnancy And Lactation Periods, Bi̇rsen Zeybek, Gülhan Türkmen

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effects of long-term administration of ethyl alcohol on insulin and glucagon hormone levels during pregnancy and lactation periods of rats were investigated. Female wistar albinos, 200±20 g, were used in this study. The control group consisted of 15 rats, and the experimental group consist of 25 ethyl-alcohol-addicted rats. While 0.9% saline (with sucrose) was to the control group, a 5 g kg perday dose of 20% ethyl alcohol was given to the experimental group. Blood samples were taken five times, during the pre-pregnancy (1), pregnancy (3), lactation (1) periods. Insulin and glucagon levels of sera were measured by RIA …

Distribution Of Different Fibronectin Isoforms In The Extracellular Matrices Of Human Term Placenta, Ayşe Yasemi̇n Demi̇r Weusten Jan 2002

Distribution Of Different Fibronectin Isoforms In The Extracellular Matrices Of Human Term Placenta, Ayşe Yasemi̇n Demi̇r Weusten

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Fibronectins are considered to be molecules that play important roles in cell migration and cell differentiation. Fibronectin molecules are thought to influence the differentiation of trophoblasts and the adhesion of these cells to maternal tissues. The aim of the present study was to analyze the distribution of fibronectin isoforms and to evaluate the differences between matrix-type fibrinoids, and other types of matrices produced by both maternal and fetal tissues. Tissue samples were collected from different sites of human term placentas. By using immunohistochemistry, the expression of fibronectin isoforms was determined and they were demonstrated by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting methods. …

Maternal Serum Vitamin D Levels In The Third Trimester Of Pregnancy, İsmai̇l Pehli̇van, Şükrü Hatun, Meti̇n Aydoğan, Kadi̇r Babaoğlu, Gülcan Türker, Ayşe Sevi̇m Gökalp Jan 2002

Maternal Serum Vitamin D Levels In The Third Trimester Of Pregnancy, İsmai̇l Pehli̇van, Şükrü Hatun, Meti̇n Aydoğan, Kadi̇r Babaoğlu, Gülcan Türker, Ayşe Sevi̇m Gökalp

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Aim: To measure serum vitamin D levels of pregnant women in the last trimester and to determine factors affecting serum levels. Methods: Seventy-eight pregnant women, 19-39 years old and having their third trimester between March and May 2000, were enrolled. Serum Ca, P and alkaline phosphatase and 25-hydroxyvitamin D_3 levels were measured in venous blood samples during the third trimester. Maternal age, education, socioeconomic status, number of gravida, nutrition, dressing habits and daily exposure time to sunlight were determined and their correlation with serum vitamin D levels were analyzed statistically. Results: The mean age of mothers was 26.1±5.1 years. The …

Serum Adenosine Deaminase Levels In Different Periods Of Pregnancy In Ewes, Muhammet Alan, Zahi̇t Tevfi̇k Ağaoğlu, Ahmet Uyar, Nuri̇ Altuğ Jan 2002

Serum Adenosine Deaminase Levels In Different Periods Of Pregnancy In Ewes, Muhammet Alan, Zahi̇t Tevfi̇k Ağaoğlu, Ahmet Uyar, Nuri̇ Altuğ

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The levels of adenosine deaminase in different periods of pregnancy and after parturition were investigated in 13 ewes. Blood samples were collected on the day of mating and on days 10, 21, 35, 75, 104, 144 of pregnancy and on day 10 after parturition. Sera were harvested from these samples and adenosine deaminase levels were assayed as IU/L. Adenosine deaminase levels were high on the day of mating and after parturition but decreased during pregnancy. The lowest level was assayed just before parturition. Levels at the sampling times were 8.91, 8.30, 5.50, 3.96, 3.80, 2.18, 1.67 and 10.51 IU/L, respectively. …

The Relationship Between Ascorbic Acid, Oestradiol 17 \Beta And Progesterone In Plasma And Ovaries In Pregnant Holstein Cows, Seyfullah Hali̇loğlu, Behi̇ç Serpek, Nuri̇ Başpinar, Hüseyi̇n Erdem, Zafer Bulut Jan 2002

The Relationship Between Ascorbic Acid, Oestradiol 17 \Beta And Progesterone In Plasma And Ovaries In Pregnant Holstein Cows, Seyfullah Hali̇loğlu, Behi̇ç Serpek, Nuri̇ Başpinar, Hüseyi̇n Erdem, Zafer Bulut

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was performed to determine the relationship between the corpus luteum weight/diameter, follicular diameter and the levels of vitamin C, progesterone and oestradiol 17-\beta of the plasma, corpus luteum and follicular fluid of pregnant Holstein cows in a slaughterhouse. Progesterone and oestradiol 17-\beta concentrations were determined by the microtitration plate EIA method. Vitamin C levels were determined by spectrophotometer. Although there was a positive correlation between follicular fluid oestradiol 17-\beta levels and the follicle diameter in the follicular fluid, in contrast to oestradiol 17-\beta levels, small follicles have higher progesterone content than large follicles. This negative correlation was due …
