Compassion Fatigue And Burnout In Mission Trip Providers, Camille Roland May 2023

Compassion Fatigue And Burnout In Mission Trip Providers, Camille Roland

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Compassion fatigue (CF), burnout (BO), lack of compassion satisfaction, and impaired mental health have had catastrophic effects on nurses, providers, and support staff in the past few years due to COVID-19, labor shortage, an influx of critically ill patients, and long hours. Compassion fatigue was coined by Figley as a state of exhaustion and dysfunction biologically, psychologically, and socially because of prolonged exposure to compassion stress. Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed nurses to exhaustion while leaving them with compassion fatigue (CF) and burnout (BO). Compassion fatigue is secondary to traumatic stress and exposure, while burnout is the state of exhaustion of one’s ability to manage with their work and personal everyday stressors. This study aimed to determine whether a daily use of a meditation app could change quality of life indicators amongst front-line nurses affected by COVID-19. With the help of the ProQol assessment tool, along with a pre and post intervention surveys, participants’ awareness and personal experiences were evaluated. The study consisted of nurses …

Improvement in nurse resilience was revealed to reduce burnout and compassion fatigue in nurses (Ackerson & Stiles; Delaney). The primary goal of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the use and impact of resiliency education on the resiliency of nurses in the hospital …

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Activities Via Smartphone In Advanced Practice Providers: A Pilot Quality Improvement Project To Reduce Perceived Stress, Burnout, And Intent To Leave, Cynthia L. Larsen-Bednarchik

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Abstract

Burnout, attrition, and decreased work engagement among Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are growing concerns and can have a negative influence on health care provider wellbeing. Chronic workplace stress is linked to various physical health problems, such as fatigue, insomnia, heart disease, depression, anxiety, and obesity. Chronic provider burnout is costly and extends to organizations and hospitals due to higher attrition, increased absenteeism, and decreased work engagement. Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) programs focus on the intent of practicing mindfulness to cultivate a state of being that is nonjudgmental, openhearted, friendly, curious, accepting, and compassionate. MBSR programs afford clinicians a way …
