Nursing faculty are relied upon to prepare the nursing workforce of the future. The stress and pressure felt by nursing faculty impacts their ability to practice self-care, and this threatens their ability to perform optimally. Lack of self-care can lead to diminished quality of life, and ultimately burnout. Feelings of burnout and decreased quality of life, which are precursors to faculty turnover, further perpetuates the nursing shortage. The complexities of the Health Call Center (HCC) amidst of a pandemic has caused an uptick in nurses and staff experiencing physical, emotional, and mental fatigue. An increase in sick calls during peak call days and times, breakroom discussion related to workload and competing patient and clinical priorities, and the consistent need to care for patients and caregivers, while maintaining familial and fiscal responsibilities and priorities contribute to the exhaustion of the nurses. A Recognition/Appreciation Intervention To Decrease Stress And Burnout In Nursing Faculty, Jennifer Anderson

Nursing faculty are at risk of stress and burnout that could lead to negative personal and system-level repercussions. A recognition and appreciation program was implemented at one public, four-year university to determine if it would decrease stress and burnout experienced by nursing faculty. The program utilized no- and low- cost strategies, including virtual events and sharing of faculty activities and achievements. Stress and burnout were measured before and after implementation of the program using the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educator Survey (MBI), respectively.
