Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Copd), Joseph Earich
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Copd), Joseph Earich
Nursing Student Class Projects (Formerly MSN)
Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an irreversible, preventable respiratory disease characterized by airflow limitation and obstruction that is usually progressive. COPD affects millions of people globally and over $7 billion dollars is spent on COPD related hospitalizations in the U.S. annually. This poster includes information focused on COPD, the underlying pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, nursing care implications, and treatment.
Methods: Research articles within the last five years were obtained using keywords such as COPD, pathophysiology, treatment, prevention, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis from databases EBSCO and PubMed. The data and quality of these articles were assessed and information compiled …
Acute Kidney Injury, Chelsey Benner
Acute Kidney Injury, Chelsey Benner
Nursing Student Class Projects (Formerly MSN)
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of surgical procedures and can lead to increased morbidity and mortality. AKI can be described by a sudden decline in kidney function, evidenced by elevation of serum creatinine, elevated blood urea nitrogen levels, and a decreased glomerular filtration rate (McCance & Huether, 2018, p. 1360). Optimal perioperative management and recognition of patients at high risk for AKI is important in preventing the development of acute kidney injury.
Human Papillomavirus, Alexandra Irwin
Human Papillomavirus, Alexandra Irwin
Nursing Student Class Projects (Formerly MSN)
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted infection that is not curable. HPV can damage cell DNA which increases the risk of oncogene expression; this leads to an increased risk of cancer. HPV is one of the leading causes of cervical cancer, among other types of cancers. Prevention is key because HPV is usually asymptomatic. The population at risk is anyone sexually active, including participation in oral sex. The health care provider should advocate for preventative measures against HPV. There are vaccinations that prevent the contraction of HPV that should be given before a person is sexually active for …
Human Papillomavirus, Lauren Leathers
Human Papillomavirus, Lauren Leathers
Nursing Student Class Projects (Formerly MSN)
This is a poster reviewing the topic of human papillomavirus (HPV). Information regarding the virus, how it is spread, and outcomes for those infected are discussed. The pathophysiological mechanisms of HPV and pathological significance are also described. Emphasis is placed on HPV prevention, and details regarding such techniques are found throughout the poster.
Clostridium Difficile Infection, Jacobina A. Adamu
Clostridium Difficile Infection, Jacobina A. Adamu
Nursing Student Class Projects (Formerly MSN)
Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) refers to bacterium that infects the gut thereby causing diarrhea (Luo & Barlam, 2018). This infection is common among people who have used antibiotics for treatment. There is a growing consensus in literature that the infection of the intestines with Clostridium difficile infection is the fastest growing healthcare issue not only in the United States but globally. Millions of Americans are infected with this bacterium, causing major concerns in the healthcare system. In addition, it is worth noting that Clostridium difficile infection is a burdensome healthcare condition given the fact that it costs the healthcare system …

Prevention Of Overuse Injuries In High School Athletes, Edna H. Wright
Prevention Of Overuse Injuries In High School Athletes, Edna H. Wright
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
Overuse injuries are a significant health problem that affects the health and well-being of adolescent athletes. Almost 50 percent of sports-related injuries in the adolescent population are considered overuse injuries and half of these injuries are preventable. Overuse injuries occur over time when repetitive demands, placed on the musculoskeletal system, result in tissue damage. The purpose of the DNP project was to educate high school coaches on the identification and prevention of overuse injuries in adolescent athletes. The project was designed with the goal of quantifying knowledge acquired by coaches participating in the project. Prevention and reduction of overuse injuries …
2-Dimension Analysis Of Frontal Plane Projection Angle In Female Soccer Athletes, Kylee M. Tuchfarber
2-Dimension Analysis Of Frontal Plane Projection Angle In Female Soccer Athletes, Kylee M. Tuchfarber
Undergraduate Distinction Papers
Research has found a variety of mechanisms for ACL injuries. One mechanism that has been found is a decreased valgus control at the knee. One study found that that “the decreased active and passive controls of knee alignments may destabilize the knee and are purported to be measures related to increased risk of ACL injury in female athletes, as they mature” (Myer, Ford, Khoury, Succop, & Hewett, 2011, 248). The age of the subjects (12-16) is important because maturation may be a contributing cause of knee abduction moments (KAM). Three-dimensionalanalysis has been said to be the “gold standard” when analyzing …
Prevention, Recognition, And Treatment Of Pediatric Obesity In The Ambulatory Care Setting, Susan Farrus-Brown
Prevention, Recognition, And Treatment Of Pediatric Obesity In The Ambulatory Care Setting, Susan Farrus-Brown
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
The World Health Organization (WHO) in 1995 described obesity as a chronic disease and one of the most important public health threats and in 2000 reported obesity as a “global epidemic.” The numbers of obese children are increasing in society; moreover, the onset of obesity is occurring at even a younger age than in the past. The prevalence of pediatric obesity is staggering and interventions need to be developed to decrease the risk for chronic and related psychological diseases.
The objective of this project was to provide education on utilization of a tool kit to increase the nurse practitioner (NP) …
